Roald Dahl. We were given a box set of 4 of his early ones (2 Charlie’s, The Magic Peach & The BFG) then the first book I read from the bookshelf on completing the reading scheme was Danny Champion of the World.

#SundayMorningBookChat Have to agree with @hfj0108.bsky.social and nominate the #UtterlyDark trilogy by @philipreeve.bsky.social They are beautifully written and deserve far more attention than they’ve received.

In terms of new books my favourite read of the year so far is probably The Greatest Stuff on Earth by Steve Tomecek which does an amazing job of making the very complex very understandable. I also really loved Detective Beans by Li Chen which is just a delight. #SundayMorningBookChat

#SundayMorningBookChat this week is a really simple one. What’s your favourite read of the year so far? This one by #AlexTSmith is a brilliant whodunit of old with brilliantly endearing humour! Tag the authors if they’re on here and share some love and recommendations.

Got distracted with thinking of authors that aren’t as well know as they should be! Has that been discussed in a previous #SundayMorningBookChat?

I caught up with Sky Dancer last year when my niece started fundraising for Hen Harrier protection. This is such an informative and well pitched book, as well as being a great story. I’m amazed it’s not talked about and used in schools more. #KidLitUK #SundayMorningBookChat

I actively try to avoid because I know that there's more chance families/ children will still be exposed to celeb authors books due to the extra publicity/money put behind them. I do like Dermot O'Leary's Toto the ninja cat series I think it should say if there's a ghostwriter #SundayMorningBookChat

This is the book that cements Alastair Chisholm as one of the greatest contemporary children’s writers. I think it suffers from being squeezed into the 9-11 bracket when it would sit more comfortably with 11-14 yos. But everyone should read it. It’s astounding. #KidLitUK #SundayMorningBookChat

This is definitely highlighting how many potential unsung heroes from my favourite authors that I have waiting to be read. But these are a selection from those I have read that don’t get shouted about enough. #KidLitUK #SundayMorningBookChat

Last night I went to see the play of Murder on the Orient Express… one of my favourite books since I was about 11/12. So for #SundayMorningBookChat this week, what book/series/author turned you into a reader. What really captured your interest enough to want to read more?

I’m not a teacher (though I did work as a TA for a few years). Right now I think we need to be getting kids reading texts that help build empathy and kindness, and texts that encourage kids to question and think for themselves. #SundayMorningBookChat #UKKidLit #KidLitUK #KidLit

I think New From Here perhaps suffered from being released whilst Covid felt too raw. But both as a historical depiction of life during lockdown, as well as exploring issues around racism, family and migration it feels like an essential text that’s been completely overlooked. #SundayMorningBookChat
