#Subsystems
Tbf last night's rant may've shown that I was maybe tolerant of the idea, but really, I'm not. It, at worst, feels like co-opting and role-playing as a debilitating disorder that's led me to forget nearly my entire life because it's so strewn throughout the multiple subsystems I have that change sm

not all of us are in one, but we have three subsystems currently, and mine is likely the most suited to be host, but isn't.

The most difficult part is how we all have many subsystems. Alters from different hosts have similar behaviors so it’s a bit harder to distinguish who is talking. Blending, blurriness, and being co-con also doesn’t help, but that makes the RP more authentic.

And the subsystems add extra rulesets that can help build more complicated encounters. Edge points in heist are your prepwork coming in clutch and saving your ass.

Yeah! I'm thinking about it mostly in the design process. I'm not sure how I'd go about designing any given game's subsystems without knowing.

The #ESAarchives Object of the Month for November is about the space connections between present and past in the German city of Bremen. While this month it plays host to ESA Ministerial Council meeting (CM25), almost 50 years ago it played an important role in one of ESA's first flagship projects.

I actually think that in order for any construction to claim "intelligence" it has to have "black box" subsystems in such a way that it results in a non-deterministic supersystem.

I think it's an interesting dynamic but personally I find the book doesn't provide enough structure or mechanical examples of how that might play out. Likewise, I also think that just giving out treasures pre-crafted sidesteps a lot of the fun with this, namely engaging with the crafting subsystems.

The absolute behemoth that is Jury’s subsystems… dude…

Executioner used to make fun of Jury. Calling them week for splitting too often. Now Executioner believes Jury keeps fronting at the worst times…

The most pathetic part about us is that there’s even more subsystems that split from the facets.

Our system structure is like an ancestry tree or fan coral with how much it branches out.

Destiny 2 must have been one of those games you needed to go get into on day one. Tried it for the first time. Disorganized mess. Too many menus, subsystems and other shit.

Explainers often omit that social, economic, political and military/conflict subsystems of the Earth System also have tipping points, just like the climate and ecological subsystems do. They are all interwoven and interdependent. Human system thresholds may be breached at lower temperatures. #COP30

The moment we breach this threshold things will change very fast in a matter of 10-20 years

If we look at the recent emergence of abrupt shifts in important subsystems in the Earth system we are close now

One or two more temperature jumps to go...

This is a rant born out of frustration: Did you think the number of niche corners and obscure subsystems in the Linux kernel were enough to send a person into fevered delirium? Do you like building software entirely via badly documented kconfig trees? Great news!
November 8, 2025 at 12:50 AM
There's not a lot of like, subsystems or map exploration or social plots to keep track of if you want something traditional and simple

But whether a trigger leads to a chain reaction and catastrophic confidence loss is a different matter altogether: when does a spark lead to a wildfire? When does a virus lead to a pandemic? This is the so-called "systemic risk". How many more cockroaches? How interconnected and weak the subsystems?
