Even in law codes, the ‘Haliwerfolc’ were afforded autonomy, a somewhat separate flow of coins, and a distinct identity and authority from Northumbria and the rest of England. They may have originated as a roaming polity through the turmoils of the Viking Age, raising questions of identity/belonging

A pair of Gadwall on the lake at Felbrigg NT, the male in the foreground with the female in the background. 10 Mute Swans on the lake, one bathing. Still a few Common Darters about, this one enjoying the late autumn sunshine. A Black Redstart was checking out the stonework.

🧵8/ Sakafune-ishi stonework remains mysterious: did ancient Japanese fill it with water/alcohol to reflect & study stars, create medicine, …? In a hilltop bamboo grove of Asuka village, its carved granite feels surreal ✨ #Archaeoastronomy enthusiasts and empaths I guided told me it's a must-touch!

The 16th-Century grille over our living room window. We're still not sure of the significance of the fleur-de-lys inside an inverted heart (the same design is in the stonework above the door and window).

Probably 13th century stonework from the Cistercian Abbey at Rievaulx. It appears to show packhorses and a working mill. The monastery was one of the richest in the country, its wealth built on the mining of lead and iron, and the rearing of sheep and the sale of their wool.

- recon. Just enough observation from the outskirts to see the clear view of high walls draped with Fire Nation banners towering over dull stonework below. Remnants of an old Earth Kingdom territory. Worn but unyielding despite its newer, unforgiving occupants.

It was also enough to know -

There was something in the moonlight tonight. It was stroking the stonework and spires, leaning into cracks between the cobblestones, caressing the stained-glass windows. She felt her heart lift with magic.

Its an amazing building! When you consider how straight each stone had to be, all hand cut, how high the towers are, how decorative the stonework!

Drystone Walls

you cover the country
in beauty in structured
stonework various
horizontal vertical
you're placed strategically
centuries in existence
repaired at times by adept
hands that never lose skills
handed down by generations

One of Canada’s oldest collegiate buildings, the Romanesque-style University College at the #UofT helped shape the nation’s model for public higher education. Its landmark towers and stonework still anchor the campus green today. #Heritage #Toronto #architecture bit.ly/3WvBYjg

Hahaa yeeeeah me too

Due to a number of circumstances, I've just been building for the past year, collecting. Most of my supplies are packed away and about 5 hours away.

Orktober's Ardboyz are nearing completion, as it were. First things I've fully painted in.. 3 years, about.

This appears to show a merchant who has scales for measuring out dried goods for sale.

The small window in the building could be for milk deliveries perhaps?

Note the roof downspout end on the side of the structure which is surrounded by raised, angled stonework to direct water away.
