If you are ever in the north, may I recommend “candle” or “rotten” ice (May-Early June). When a frozen river “breaks up” in the spring, water levels are low and the ice begins to crack into large chunks, seen here. As they melt, they don’t thaw evenly, and air pockets form, causing the ice to form
