About 15 years ago, I was visiting friends in Halifax, and I was on a quest to find a handmade ceramic spoonrest as a souvenir to take home.

Today I’m going to work on my pottery wheel and make a bunch of spoonrests for tourists at the store where I sell my pottery in Bragg Creek.

A few of my first ceramics creations have come out of the kiln. The spoon rests are actually usable! (The leaf was stamped with a lino carving I made.) The "pencil cup" is hideous because I wanted to see what wiping the glaze off would look like, and it turns out, it looks... not good.
Four beginner pottery projects, arranged on a bright yellow table: A weird pencil cup made with swirls of clay and pretty ugly. A tiny stylized bird in metallic red. A spoonrest shaped like an acorn with a brown cap. And a celadon spoonrest with the impression of a single leaf stamped in the center.

made a tortilla española today! deep frying the potatoes and onions in a skillet is terrifying, but absolutely worth. it's delicious, and now i have this incredible leftover sweet oniony oil.

The most perplexing piece of plastic waste since the Toucan Sam vertical spoonrest. It's an abstract pig with a suction cup for a head. In its ass cheeks, it is clenching an umbrella handle, which instead of a canopy, supports a small realistic baseball hat the color and sheen of human skin. The packaging suggests that if you stick your phone against the pig head stump hat thing, you can shade your celphone screen from sunbeams? 3$
