Only one LBAM in the trap last night, complete waste of electricity! But this smart Hairy Shieldbug on the wall was some compensation. #teammoth #shieldbugs

This Green Shieldbug (Palomena prasina) nearly became a "squash bug" - almost trodden on, pottering about on the bedroom floor! Looks very smart in it's winter attire complete with red legs. @rockwolf74.bsky.social

Who should wander across my desk today but a Sloe bug (Hairy Shield-bug) — clad in plum-toned armour, walking with stately precision across the grain. A miniature knight of hedgerow and woodland edge. For a fleeting moment of wonder, leaf-littered paths and my timbered desk became one #WildWonder

A Shield Bug on a pink flower and covered in rain drops. I saw this, fortuitously, while photographing flowers. What a pretty find.

Fungal Defence
I'm not very good at rearing larval insects, and on the few occasions that I have I've wound up with parasitoid wasps rather than what I was...

Just got on bus back to Brighton. It was too wet to eat my packed lunch in Costells tWood so I had it on the bus. When I got my sandwich box out of my rucksack I noticed that something had hitched a ride: a Birch Shieldbug, Elasmostethus interstinctus
