#ServiceMembers
The vast majority of people engaging this seem to miss the point: he is targeting Black servicemembers, and pretending it's not about race.
Hegseth: "We don't need to be a military of beardos anymore. Do you know how many troops claim to be Nordic Pagan? No, suddenly it's become this real fake religious affiliation inside the Pentagon where troops came to be Nordic Pagan so they can grow a beard and nobody challenges them on it."

DOD instruction 1300.17, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, and the free exercise clause of the First Amendment all give servicemembers the right to believe or not believe whatever they want.
November 12, 2025 at 3:24 PM
I meant irrelevant to the military being able to do what it's supposed to be doing.

The emphasis on shaving, the need for Black servicemembers to get shaving waivers in the first place, that's certainly intertwined w/ racism. But it's a WWI holdover, rooted in weirdness about irrelevant details.
November 12, 2025 at 3:23 PM
Is there a chance this is just oblique racism by basically forcing black servicemembers to suffer with pseudofolliculitis?
November 12, 2025 at 3:12 PM
He is correct that servicemembers are getting religious accommodations granted to grow beards based on them claiming to be Norse Pagans.

But I imagine he wouldn’t be so quick to “challenge” the Christianity of people asking for vaccine exemptions based on their Christian beliefs.

The fact is, the oath of enlistment requires servicemembers to defend the country against domestic enemies as well as foreign. They don't see the fascists in government as domestic enemies. This makes the rest of us the enemy of the US military, because you CANNOT serve both and they picked a side.

Dozens of military servicemembers and their families gathered Tuesday to commemorate Veterans Day at Foster Village. https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2025/11/12/veterans-gather-foster-village-after-traditional-ceremonies-cancelled/

The evidence is overwhelming that this policy is driven by animus rather than military necessity there is no credible evidence that transgender servicemembers harm military readiness, unit cohesion, or effectiveness.
November 12, 2025 at 5:43 AM
“Every day this discriminatory ban remains in effect, qualified and courageous transgender servicemembers face the threat of being kicked out of the military simply because of who they are.

The best Veterans Day statement I have read this year, whether by any candidate or any current elected, is this one by @wewill2026.bsky.social.

My last #VeteransDay thought. A lot of servicemembers and veterans are as much victims of the US Military-Industrial complex as those we are sent out against.

He was up way past his bedtime last night, trying to decide where to send the "suckers" and "losers"—pardon, he meant to say the American military servicemembers he has such enormous respect for—next.

It'll probably be one of these four places he thinks is Chicago.
What Trump Did Today
On November 11, 2025, Donald Trump celebrated Veterans Day by threatening to send US troops into Chicago to fight a real estate bubble.

In a lawsuit filed on Nov. 10, more than a dozen transgender servicemembers are asking a court to reinstate the pensions they say the Air Force promised them as they were forced out of the military, only to rip them away in the subsequent months.

Transgender troops who served 15 to 18 years sue Air Force over revoked pensions
The Air Force stripped away retirement benefits from transgender airmen with 15 to 18 years of service after they were kicked out of the military.

I should have reinforced— I mean ALL veterans - no matter their sex, gender identity, orientation, race, ethnicity, disability, background, or religion! But here’s especially looking at you, trans servicemembers and veterans - your service is equal and ought to be treated as such! 🏳️‍⚧️

It was an honor to join @wehocity.bsky.social for #VeteransDay & honor active duty servicemembers and veterans, including Major Veronica Zerrer, who was recognized for her distinguished 22 year career & her advocacy for veterans, seniors & the LGBTQ+ community.

To all who have served, thank you. 💙

Today, we celebrate and honor our veterans, servicemembers, and their families. To those who have dedicated their life to that patriotic oath and sacrificed so much to defend our nation, thank you for your service. (1/2)

Vets, please tip your server.

I saw two young servicemembers leaving their server without a tip because "it's free on Veterans Day."

The server still served you and it doesn't hurt to leave them $5.

For over two centuries, America’s military servicemembers have put their lives on the line and their families have made huge sacrifices so that our country is protected in this volatile world – in times of war and peace.

My dad is a Vietnam vet.

He came home with invisible wounds that shaped the rest of his life & ours. Like so many who served, he depends on the VA for the care he earned.

Because of him, I carry a simple conviction: when our servicemembers come home, our duty to them doesn’t end. It begins. (1/2)

Happy Veterans Day, and thank you to all of our servicemembers!

Wisconsin is home to over 330,000 veterans and today is our day to thank them for devoting themselves to public service – and think about what our country and government owe them in return.

Change My Mind: If America, and its elected kakistocracy, cared about servicemembers and veterans than veteran homelessness wouldn't exist. All VA treatment facilities would be immaculate and fully staffed, with salaries competitive to the private sector. #veteransagainsttrump #shaysrebellionpart2

1/ On Veterans Day, and every day, we honor the service and selflessness of our veterans and servicemembers. Their dedication to protecting our freedoms is a debt we can never fully repay.

Nobody hates servicemembers more than the GOP.

Republicans love the guns and the uniforms, but the men and women who actually serve? Nah. Too poor, and often too brown.
