Polarization in research or mere dissent – a need for better demarcation
Dr Bjørn Hofmann’s views on polarization in research are insightful. However, many if not most types of differences in scientific opinions might thus be included as polarization. It could be argued...

Science is serendipitous🍀

New research finds "~70% of biomedical papers include outcomes that would not be expected from what scientists proposed in their funding applications"

How often do unexpected scientific discoveries occur? More often than you might think
A study assessed 1.2 million biomedical publications and measured the ‘unexpectedness’ of their findings.

An interesting question is *why* we have this pattern. I suspect there are multiple contributing factors, perhaps not all bad. #ScienceOfScience
We really need to be talking about this more, esp. now.
As researchers, we need flexibility; we need interdisciplinarity; we need the ability to evolve and branch (also to stave off burnout).
Science is built on exchange of ideas, and stifling new voices is not how we move forward.

Analysis of 7,973 psychologists demonstrates these divides. Scientific consensus isn't just about data—our cognitive architectures filter how we process evidence, bolstering persistent divides that resist resolution. #ScienceofScience #CognitiveScience #Conflict #Confusion #CollectiveIntelligence

Please could you warn your "scientists" to remain "scientists" ?

I have been blocked after warning that accusing AI of being AI without knowing what is AI is dangerous

I can't forward you his invitation to a witchcraft-AI ban: I'm blocked
I think it is dangerous
You don't even take the time to define the words AI.

STRIKINGLY similar to how so-called "right-wing" politicians do politics in the USA:

No need to define the word communist, let's accuse anyone we don't like of being it: anyway our voters will never take the time to check
