#Savonarola
Real Christians can be evil, inhuman monsters. Like Luther, who called for genocide of Jews. Or Savonarola, who called for genocide of Jews. Or Gregory of Nyssa, who called for genocide of Jews. Or John Chrysomom, who called for genocide of Jews. I could go on.

Interesting but too reminiscent of Savonarola & Nazi book burning. I dislike bonfires of the vanities eve when the vanities relate to trump.

Isso aqui é de deixar um ateu com vontade de virar Savonarola.

DYK #Savonarola tried to revive stoning & public burning at the stake for #QueerSex/#bestiality in 1495 Florence? "Make a pretty fire, or two or three, there in the square, of these sodomites. …make a fire that can be smelled in all of Italy." Blog7 HowSexGotScrewedUp.com

Awkward Googling for Writers, #48
What would Savonarola’s go-to order be at @Starbucks?

Almost certainly a plain black tea - austere, and free from sinful luxury. Milk and sugar would be moral failings; ice or syrup would be heresy.

Two of the most dangerous things about him. He thinks he's doing god's will (think Savonarola, Spanish Inquisition) and that he is better than everyone else because of it.

Room update: the chair is reassembled. Expect some photos of Reynard in this chair soon as I can get everything in its place.

Room so far. You can see my lantern, my shelf with hooks for bags etc. and that thing bundled up in cardboard is my one remaining piece of furniture from the US, an old Savonarola chair.

George Eliot's "Romola" spoiler alert:

I'm on Chapter 40, and Savonarola really does Romola dirty. Like, let her have her independence and find her own damn purpose. Tsk.

La Storia non insegna, ma Savonarola sí. Almeno quello ce lo ricordiamo. In effetti non ci ricordiamo i suoi roghi di libri e di opere d'arte ed anche di qualche persona (lui incluso).

Savonarola with these stormy skies on my way home last night was just too funny not to post. His grumpy presence reaches far beyond the grave (or the arno)

And Christian Europe begins to ask “if we are God’s chosen religion, why has Christendom suffered these devastating setbacks”

Many, such as Savonarola, Martin Luther, Henry VIII, and John Calvin blamed the Church and its incorporation of paganism into local theology

Rick Wilson going full Savonarola in wanting to completely eradicate any trace of Trump and his legacy... a revenge fantasy that involves demolishing any White House additions Trump made, purging the administration of Quislings, and generally making the MAGATs cry.

The Rise And Fall Of The Florentine Friar
Girolamo Savonarola's denunciations of luxury during the Renaissance drew the ire of the Catholic Church, which had him excommunicated, tortured, hanged, and burned in 1498. Daderot/Wikimedia CommonsA statue of Girolamo Savonarola in Ferrara, Italy. Just the word Florence evokes a world of art, and power, and beauty. The Italian city was the cradle of the Renaissance, and hosted such masters as da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Botticelli.

October is Italian Heritage Month
This is the Bronze plaque on Piazza della Signoria in Florence marking the spot where Savonarola was burned at the stake for heresy. The Florentines really knew how to get rid of a bad leader.
