Apparently Linux phones aren't really there yet (though stuff like SailfishOS looks promising), so I may eventually get a used Pixel (which seems to have the widest support for custom ROMs) and install a privacy-focused/de-Googled Android-based OS like GrapheneOS or /e/OS.

I loved the idea of #sailfishOS as #Linux based OS *but* I could never get used to the swipe UI... it was always so clunky and inconvenient... (and yes, with Android it's also inconvenient!). If they were to offer more classic UI/UX take (icons) it would be awesome EU alternative for Android!

Since this is your first smartphone, that means you're not super dependent on any popular apps right (like WhatsApp etc)? In which case, you may be better off selling your Flip5 and buying a proper Linux phone, like the FuriPhone FLX1 (Debian), Volla Quintus (Ubuntu Touch), Jolla C2 (SailfishOS) etc

Nice to see #jolla (behind #sailfishos) officially on Mastodon. At least I didn’t manage to spot them earlier.

I still find #sailfish to be the most interesting alternative OS for phones. In a perfect world I would be using it as my main driver, rather than an iPhone (the #sony #xperia form […]

So I've pulled the trigger and ordered a device I intend to run #SailfishOS on. Looking forward to a new tinkering challenge

A side-by-side overview of @UBports's #UbuntuTouch & Jolla's #SailfishOS running on @thefxtec #Pro1 hardware keyboard phone:Hopefully it helps those hesitating in the last 3 days of the IGG campaign (link in the description).

Ubuntu Touch vs SailfishOS side-by-side on the F(x)tec Pro1 keyboard slider phone
**An overview of both OSes on the F(x)tec Pro1, and some discussion about how the hardware keyboard compares with other keyboard phones.** The Pro1x, a Pro1 with moar storage, RAM, a blue case and a non-shifted QWERTY layout, is now available on Indiegogo until the end of this week: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/pro1-x-smartphone-functionality-choice-control/x/3170084?secret_perk_token=2c0a82a4 If you use this link, you can pick a "secret" perk with the special price with a coupon from XDA Developers (no much of a secret, it is in the XDA announcement article). This makes the Pro1x cheaper than the Pro1. It is a crowdfunding campaign so there may be delays, but as you can see the company already delivered the first product so I'm quite confident that they'll eventually deliver the Pro1x too. The video may give a false impression: I do not dislike Planet Computers devices at all. In fact, I am really happy that they are on the market and even though their offering would not be my first choice because of the keyboard, hinge and SOC, it is great that they are contributing to the love for keyboard phones. Now with them, Unihertz and F(x)tec, we can finally choose.

Luckily, I have :nixos: # nix on my # SailfishOS phone, so getting the # Immich cli was super easy. `immich upload {Pictures,Videos}/Camera` was *much faster* than the Android app, checked locally for duplicates via hashes and uploaded the rest like a champ.

Mobile Linux is actually fine and does indeed "just work". At least, that's been my experience with SailfishOS and Ubuntu Touch. The problem is the lack of hardware partnerships, we need some big name OEM to take the lead, cause unlike x86 you can't just install Linux on any random ARM phone.
