Could states not initiate there own SNAP's and withhold this money from the federal tax payments?

The pause will send it back to the First Circuit where a final ruling will be made. That will actually be the final ruling and speed up SNAP’s return. I expect the First Circuit to vote to release the SNAP funds.

Bullshit. SNAP's already been resolved through separate means, and the breakdown of our flights would have put *immense* pressure on trump and the gop to end things.

But the Dems wimped out over their flights being cancelled.

Marisa Kabas wrote a great article recently about the people affected by SNAP's funding. I suggest people read it and then decide what things they are confident letting others sacrifice for.
The voices of SNAP
Recipients have become political pawns. They explained, in their own words, what Trump withholding funds has been like.

U.S. Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA) asks why President Donald Trump can find $40 billion for Argentina on his own but somehow needs congressional approval to use SNAP's contingency fund.

Nearly 5.4 million households will receive only $12, the minimum benefit for households with 1 or 2 members under USDA’s plan. But this appears to violate SNAP’s regulations, which require these households to receive the typical minimum benefit of $24.

SNAP's steady balance keeping power creep from running rampant is really one of the best things about it.

Hard to believe I've been enjoying bouncing my cards for over three years now!

“Running the government like a business,” means at the end of the year, uninvested capital becomes profit. So he likely thinks that whatever is left over in SNAP’s account can go into his piggy bank on January 1.

tRump’s GESTAPO got SNAP’s money 💰
Then they act like they don’t know what happened to it, forgetting that they ANNOUNCED IT!

Republicans got everything they wanted.

Democrats got nothing but an "agreement" to vote again and nothing else. They put us through hell and didn't deliver shit.

Trump has got to be pleased with himself.

And hey, SNAP's not coming back soon, if ever, and ICE is still out there.

Winning.

First, Trump cut hundreds of billions of dollars from SNAP. ⁣

Then, he tried to stop paying food assistance entirely.⁣

Now, he has to be dragged kicking and screaming by the courts to make just half of SNAP's payments.⁣

Why doesn't he want hungry Americans to be able to eat?

SNAP’s contingency fund has enough to ensure every one of the 42 million Americans who rely on it gets a full payment.

The Trump administration’s choice to send partial benefits anyway is political and needlessly cruel.

The law’s cruelty doesn’t end with benefit cuts. Beginning in 2027, the federal government will slash its share of SNAP’s administrative costs from 50 percent to 25 percent, forcing states to cover the rest.

5/ To cover all of SNAP's benefits, the USDA has stated it would have to use child nutrition funds, which they are not willing to do as it would shift the problem to low-income kids who rely on free or reduced-price school meals, even though that fund currently holds nearly $17 billion.

My company is doing donation matching for organizations assisting with food insecurity in local communities in light of SNAP's partial cut-off (11/1). If you'd like your donation to count double, DM me to coordinate. Lmk which of the listed orgs too. I'm donating on 11/6.

Trump's claim of widespread abuse of SNAP doesn't hold up. According to the USDA this year, "SNAP’s Quality Control (QC) system earns a solid “A” grade. Over 98% of those receiving SNAP benefits are eligible and payment accuracy was 95.64%--a historic high."

I didn’t make this up. SNAP’s budget is about $100B a year. That’s $273M a day.

4/ This weekend was also the first time SNAP benefits missed their first of the month payout. Two federal judges have ordered the USDA to release the funds, and today, it was announced that the Trump admin will use $4.65B from SNAP’s contingency fund to cover half of November benefits.
November 3, 2025 at 11:05 PM
This comes from the idea, debunked by our own government, that non-citizens are benefitting from SNAP. This is against SNAP's own rules, but it's one to consider in the future, because if my (on average) $300/year can keep someone fed, those are taxes well spent.
November 4, 2025 at 5:49 PM
And what can it be used on? Program operations. What are SNAP's program operations? Delivering benefits and running the program. Of *course* it can be used on delivering benefits.

Today, for the first time in history, SNAP benefits won’t be going out – leaving 42 million Americans wondering how they’ll get their next meal. Why? Because the Trump administration is REFUSING to use SNAP’s emergency contingency fund to administer this critical assistance. 🧵
