SAP-RPT-1 is a relational pretrained foundation model that delivers accurate predictive insights from structured business data. It uses in-context learning, allowing users to provide example records directly in API calls, to generate instant, reliable predictions without any model training.

SAP held its yearly developer conference - SAP TechEd - in Berlin - finally back in person since too many years. With over 2500 attendees it was well intended - with a larger audience lurking online. The industry and SAP as well are in the middle to upgrade their AI tooling and SAP did well with innovation both on the data side (with SAP BDC) and AI (with SAP Joule). What stood out on the AI innovation side is the creation of SAP's first LLM - a business focused LLM that understands the fundamental business dynamics and mechanics - while understanding where it is stored - in tabular data. On the data side the partnership with "arch analytic enemy" Snowflake shows that that battle for data supremacy is in full swing: The good news is - the customers can decide where they want the data supremacy / gravity to be. Kudos to SAP to put TechEd in the 'lion's den' with Berlin - as the vendor's business problem is to convince its install base to upgrade to S/4HANA and generate cloud revenue. After all is analyzed and revied, at the heart of the problem is an automation challenge - and the original automation is written in ABAP and runs enterprises today. SAP needs to address the ABAP automation challenge for its customers an did some key steps here - with ABAP being part of Microsoft Visual Studio and integration to 3rd party LLM models and platforms (Claude Code, Windsurf, Cursor etc.). to increase developer velocity. That is (very) good news on the tooling side, but more important is the LLM powered transformation of current ECC code into to be (clean core) S/4 code. This was unfortunately a little bit to quiet in keynotes, sessions and briefings. But to go to the experiences and critical install base is an important move: SAP will only be able to upgrade in Europe via Germany and the road to that goes through ABAP automation that is maintained and coded by ABAP developers.
