#RootTraits
I am happy to present a, what I learned from our in-field to lab approach @barleymicrobreed.bsky.social -which #roottraits #rootphenotyping were informative in an approach across 3 countries (5 fields, Austria, Lebanon, Morocco) - and b, my long year interest of experimental design influences #root
Interested in root phenotyping in soil and in the dark? and in Copenhagen on Oct 2? @katarzynaretzer.bsky.social will give a seminar at @ucph.bsky.social PLEN at 11.00 in room M117 - stop by and see high-resolution imaging and multi-omics at work!

Plant community root traits outweigh target species in mediating soil carbon and nitrogen storage across grazing-exclusion chronosequences in semi-arid grasslands
Abstract. Semi-arid grasslands serve as critical carriers for carbon and nitrogen sequestration in ecologically fragile regions, with plant root functional

🌱 #Fieldwork days at The Jena Experiment - @jena-experiment.bsky.social!
Scanning roots with a minirhizotron, tracking seasonal changes & traits, plus plant surveys & soil checks. Led by PhD candidate Srijna Saxena with support from Tom Künne. Can’t wait to see what the data reveal!

Adaptable roots, better cotton: How root traits improve yields
Cotton is vital to South Carolina’s economy, generating $144.5 million in production value in 2024. Yet, drought stress from sandy topsoil and clay-rich

Another root + drought pilot experiment: Will Eucalytus pauciflora and Eucalytus dalrympleana grow in rhizoboxes?

Rhizoboxes are narrow pots with a clear side so we can watch root growth. But Eucs don't like greenhouses so not sure if they'll put up with this.

Root Characteristics Vary with Depth Across Four Lowland Seasonal Tropical Forests - Ecosystems
Fine roots are key to ecosystem-scale nutrient, carbon (C), and water cycling, yet our understanding of fine root trait variation within and among tropical forests, one of Earth’s most C-rich ecosyste...
