#RedressScheme
🧵1/5
Whether you realise it or not every single household in #Ireland has a connection to a #MotherandBabyHome, a #MagdaleneLaundry &/or an #IndustrialSchool!
In my household there are 6 connections!
When the details of the exclusions from the #MotherandBabyHome #RedressScheme were made public…..

distracted from the many failings of the #RedressScheme, memorialisation should be the final cog of the wheel to be put in place & should not distract those who are meant to fight to have all terms of the scheme adhered to 1st. The failings apply to both #MotherandBabyHomes & #IndustrialSchools

I also did not receive the #NonFinancialRedress in its entirety.
My #birthinfo is redacted.
The State reneged on the commitment of #DNA tracing.
#Tusla closed my trace for my Birth Fathers family despite not locating them.
I am 1 of many failed by the #RedressScheme

#ProgrammeForGovernment is 162 pages.
There is only 1 tiny paragraph referencing #MotherandBabyHomes & a small section on #IndustrialSchools
This is insulting for #Survivors
No commitment to changing #RedressScheme
No mention of #Justice for those who are excluded due to the 6 month rule.

Ireland trump that unfortunately. The deeply flawed #redressscheme is the under the remit of the department of children.

“Western Australia – the state that had the highest rate of forcible removal of Aboriginal children – is finally reckoning with one of the darkest chapters of its history.

“The human consequences of those inhumane practices have been monumental”

After decades of trauma that’s still being felt today, the state has launched a redress scheme for survivors of the Stolen Generations - years after other states did the same.
WA had the highest rates of Indigenous child removal in the country. At last, the state is finally facing up to it

This also highlights some key implications of the work, particularly in relation to the controversial #redressscheme. The results clearly show that the six-month cutoff is not a reliable indicator of whether someone suffered harm.
