Did a quick and dirty implementation of a spatial hash structure to speedup RTAO, ray results are stored in cells indexed by pos/normal/cell size and after storing a few rays occlusion can be queried from the cell instead of raytracing it. 3x faster raytraced AO for that scene with no denoising.

mf'ers say "UE5 is unstable" and they try to play games at 4k with max settings, raytracing, and other rtx buzzwords while using a 5 year old 3080 still with a ryzen 7 7800x3d as their bottleneck.
I see a lot of comments saying UE5 is known for being badly optimized, but never bring up games made with UE5 that are actually amazing. Games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Sonic Racing Crossworlds run on Unreal Engine 5 and seem to run great so idk.

don't worry when you enter a PS4 zone they use the extra processing power to activate Ultra Raytracing

I agree. UE's software raytracing is just nasty, on any hardware and regardless of performance.
It looks like ass, which is completely the opposite of what RT is supposed to do.
These days it feels like Epic are setting back gaming in various ways on purpose for some reason.

I just released Raycore.jl - a high-performance ray tracing engine for Julia with CPU and GPU support!
It will power a new photorealistic rendering backend for Makie.jl, but we made it modular and flexible to support any other use case

now audio-raytracing would be a really cool advancement, but I'm not sure it would be worth an extra two hundred bucks to me for slightly better immersion

In 20 years some young person will probably make a game with 2020's style retro graphics
What do you think that aesthetic will be?
I'm thinking physically based lighting on everything, ghosting artifacts because of DLSS upscaling, lots of shiny surfaces with raytracing

It does help that I got my old RX 570 to crunch renders on a second computer.
I was gonna retire that card, but it still works decently, somehow. No raytracing, but thankfully not everything in the project needs raytracing.

i am still losing my mind over this
you don't even need a raycast, literally all you need is distance and angles
and on the flipside there's a part of me that goes "i wonder if the spotlight uses raytracing, and if you could use that for free enemy detection"

new weapon that uses raytracing to fire instead of regular bullets. I feel like it still needs some polish, like maybe some fade on that

It's not that it's *off* in render view, it's just that raytracing algorithms really don't like weird normals, and by all accounts this is normal behaviour. Just gotta figure out how to go around that limitation... I'll message you later.
