One last run to celebrate the New Year and the conclusion of #Railway200.

In 1825, the first steam-hauled passenger train left the small town of Shildon, bound for the future.

200 years later, the world has surely not forgotten.

Southeastern Rail 200 celebration highlights for 2025
As we close this landmark year, we celebrate everything that made Railway 200 unforgettable. From station anniversaries and depot open days to charity walks, baking competitions, a unique train tour and train unveilings, every moment reflected the passion and dedication of our railway family. One of the standout highlights was the ‘Sir Chris Green’ Networker train unveiling and commemorative tour, which paid tribute to 200 years of railway heritage. The specially branded train travelled across our network, giving colleagues and customers the chance to be part of this historic celebration. We also opened the doors at Ashford Depot, welcoming thousands of visitors for a behind-the-scenes look at how we keep the railway running. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our expertise and engage with the community and raise money for our charities. Alongside these, we marked Women in Engineering Day with a special event for local schoolgirls, inspiring the next generation to explore careers in rail. And we hosted the Inspiration Train, bringing communities together and highlighting the opportunities our industry offers. Our colleagues and customers amazing efforts also helped support incredible charities - Alzheimer’s Research UK, Railway Benefit Fund, Railway Children, Railway Mission, and the Transport Benevolent Fund, making a real difference to those who need it most.
