Finally, the #Ecology & #EnvironmentalScience runner-up is 'Lessons from a Forgotten Dance' by Kees Bastmeijer. Japanese crane dances have long been studied by ecologists, but the focus behind this image is on their cultural significance for the Ainu, Japan’s Indigenous people. #RSPPhotoComp

The #Ecology & #EnvironmentalScience winner, 'Amphibian galaxy' by Filippo Carugati, depicts a wonderful natural spectacle: Malagasy frogs' mass reproduction. Inside this egg aggregation, several tadpoles swim peacefully through the gelatinous substance that composed this structure. #RSPPhotoComp

#EarthSciences & #Climatology runner-up, 'Where Fog Becomes Drinking Water' by Felipe Ríos Silva, shows a coastal stratocumulus cloud drifting inland and becoming fog at the Coastal Range - the same fog that inspired decades of research to supply water to Atacama Desert communities. #RSPPhotoComp

The #EarthSciences & #Climatology winner is 'Scanning glaciers in the Antarctic winter' by Michael Meredith (@oceanandice.bsky.social). Taken during a wintertime expedition in Börgen Bay, the photo shows the ship's searchlights picking out features of the William Glacier. #RSPPhotoComp

The #behaviour runner-up is 'The Snake That Flies' by Irina Petrova Adamatzky. The Atlas moth is a master of deception - look closely and you’ll see the shapes of two snake heads. This still portrait reveals an extraordinary behavioural adaptation: survival through disguise. #RSPPhotoComp

The winner of the #behaviour category is 'Prairie Chicken Jump Off' by Peter Hudson. Within a season, males defend the same spots and interact with familiar rivals. They remain calm, merely facing off, until a female arrives and sparks aggression, as depicted in the image. #RSPPhotoComp

The #astronomy runner-up is 'Between Auroras and Dawn – A South Pole Sunrise After the Longest Night on Earth' by Dr Aman Chokshi. Captured during a year-long winterover at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, this image marks the return of the Sun after six months of polar night. #RSPPhotoComp
