Partner with Taiwan: A path for the Philippines to break the cycle of climate disaster loss
By Wallace Min-Gan Chow This year alone, the Philippines has suffered a series of typhoons. In July Wifa (crising) inundated entire communities in northern Luzon. Ragasa (Nando) and Bualoi (Opong) arrived one after the other in late September and brought heavy flooding, forcing thousands of people into evacuation centers in Eastern Visayas. And just last week, Kalamegi (Tino) caused landslides and floods in several areas of the central Philippines, reportedly killing hundreds and displacing hundreds of thousands.

[4] November 9th, soldiers from Taiwan’s 2nd Operational Zone were mobilized to assist with evacuations in Guangfu Township, Hualien, ahead of Typhoon Fung-Wong’s expected landfall. The township was devastated just weeks ago by Typhoon Ragasa, causing severe flooding with more than 20 people dead.

Fung-wong the 4th major landfalling typhoon of 2025:

Danas (Cat 3, Taiwan)
Ragasa (Cat 5, Panuitan Island, Philippines)
Kalmaegi (Cat 3, Vietnam)
Fung-wong (Cat 3, Philippines)

No long-term trend since 1946, but the 2004-2025 period has seen a lot (4.2/y) vs. the previous 22-year period (2.6/y).

Nakakagigil kasi may kasamang mga troso sa ragasa ng baha. Walang kwenta yung flood control projects tas pinapayagan pa yung deforestation para makapag-mining o makapagpatayo ng mga bahay sa taas. Ano? For the view? For the aesthetic?

I am still thinking about what names to give Kazuhiro and Tomoki in my Fantasy story.. I am leaning towards just changing their names up a bit
Tomoki > Moki

Terrifying to see not even 2 months after the Babuyan Islands were devastated by Ragasa that models are wanting another #Supertyphoon to hit the region. Really hoping it will miss!

A look back at Typhoon Ragasa earlier this September: while it was the most powerful typhoon over the western Pacific in recorded history, it was also the furthest from Hong Kong of all ✚10 typhoons; as a result Ragasa was ranked in the bottom-third in terms of impact

Typhoon Ragasa had maximum sustained winds of 144 kts (267 km/h) during its peak. Melissa has reached 150 kts
What we're witnessing with #Melissa is ultra rare in the history of known hurricanes in the Atlantic. This level of sustained intensity and feasting on every joule of ocean heat content without any real disruption is incredible.

Not hyperbole: Jamaica is facing a generational catastrophic event.
