Querying Authors: When you see on QueryTracker that an agent has a low request rate, do you skip that agent? Or do you still query because you are confident or don't worry about the numbers?

It’s funny that you get so used to those automated QueryTracker emails being rejections that you almost don’t notice when one of them is a partial request. Thank goodness I looked at it a second time before filing it.

If you look at your QT Dashboard, it will tell you right there that your queries and submissions are “outstanding!”

Well, this is surreal. I've had QueryTracker Premium for about 2.5 years as I've been querying and revising WAKE. It feels so weird to finally cancel it.
But it's only temporary. My mythology WIP is coming along, so hopefully I'll be back in the trenches soon! 🫡

1) Good question. Here's my current process. Nothing about it is exactly revolutionary, and I'm sure other authors do the same things.
1. Find agents who rep my genre on QueryTracker. I generally search only US agents and look for those who rep adjacent genres (but not always).

I ended up putting together a Doc with useful links (Absolute Write, Querytracker, some craft posts etc) and directing people to that. I think sometimes people are just overwhelmed and don't know where to start.

For querying writers: QueryTracker is not the only resource. Some agents shortlisted for this year's Literary Agent of the Year don't even feature on QueryTracker.

The average number of queries getting requests is down to 4.6% according to QueryTracker. This makes it hard to judge when you should make changes because you need a large sample size to determine if your query is doing worse than expected.

Seven queries are out. I'd just like to point out that QueryTracker is great, but the ability to see our queries in queue is the absolute worse thing for someone with anxiety and a severe checking compulsion. I think I need to block it from my work computer and my phone. #writingcommunity

It’s not necessarily a competition, although you could look at it that way. Each line is a query received by the lit agent. This information is on querytracker. So you can see when an agent is about to look at your query or if they might still be considering it (as in the pic I posted).
