Goodnight🌟

There is geometry in the humming of the strings, there is music in the spacing of the spheres.

Pythagoras taught that the universe sings — every element, every soul, part of a greater harmony. My latest blog explores his wisdom, how it has shaped modern practice, and how we can apply it today.

Everyone knows that Pythagoras forbade his followers to consume beans, but not many people know that Carnap did the same but for onions.

Pythagoras (c. 570–495 BCE) led the Pythagoreans, a secretive group that viewed numbers as divine. Odd numbers were masculine, even ones feminine, and 10 was sacred-symbolizing the cosmos through 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10. Pythagoras also had a great fear of beans...

A really smart guy that figured out both triangles and the fact that humans don’t need to eat animals. Evidence of a correlation between intelligence and veganism? Hmmm… 😊
Be like Pythagoras. Be Smart. #GoVegan
Pythagoras lived 2500 years ago and is best known for the Pythagorean theorem equation for right angles.

But he also believed in the idea that animals need to be protected and that they have souls like human souls. He was a vegetarian and believed no animal should be killed for human consumption.

My favourite lesson I teach is Pythagoras. The lesson isn't about triangles: more, that he is rumoured to have had a student drowned because he was incensed about his student showing that irrational numbers existed. The moral of the story is that his student was killed for doing his homework.

Playing a dulcimer like Joni Mitchell(Coyote Song 70s). More of Pythagoras vibe but aggregating several persona into one character seems legit too.

Along with the release of a video of Xenakis' piece Peaux, I've written an introduction to Xenakis' life, mind, & work, including Peaux. I hope it will enrich your listening🙏
This is a partner piece to 'Pythagoras – All is Music' and refers back to that often.

The Hurrian Hymn to Nikkal is the oldest known musical notation, discovered on a cuneiform clay tablet in the ancient city of Ugarit (in ancient Syria).

Dated ~1400 BCE, it revealed that the Ugaritians understood the principles of musical scales several centuries before Pythagoras.
