The new university is expected to open by 2030. It will serve approximately 100 students and have 80 staff members.

Yet another water crisis in Nunavut but at least the feds stepped in quickly, unlike in the Nunavik community of Puvirnituq where Quebec waited weeks to step in.

For six years, Juani Qinuajuak has been delivering water to homes in Puvirnituq by truck...when he can. Often workers like him in Nunavik are forced to work in difficult conditions, such as extreme weather and infrastructure breakdowns.

Lucy Qalingo is the mayor of Puvirnituq, an Inuit village of 2,200 in Nunavik that has been experiencing water infrastructure issues that sometimes leaves residents without running water for weeks at a time.

Every weekday suppliers physically truck water from the filtration plant to individual homes and businesses.

Because of permafrost and bedrock, underground pipes are not feasible in Puvirnituq. But in a place with vicious blizzards, minus 30 temperatures, and crumbling roads, water delivery trucks suffer frequent breakdowns.

A paper trail reveals that not only does Inuit leadership have difficulties working with provincial authorities, there is also a history of communication breakdowns between Puvirnituq city hall and the Kativik Regional Government.
