I look forward to not having tube in my junk, an IV in my hand, and a PulseOx on the same hand

Actual text from a 2023 FDA clearance:

“12 subjects come from Africa (3), Caucasian (5) & Asian (4) which include Medium, light & dark race”

This EXCEEDS current FDA #PulseOx voluntary guidance standards, @wyden.senate.gov @warren.senate.gov

We gotta do better

I'm monitoring my pulseox now..

Yesterday I was so tired, and yawning all day but it never seemed to satisfy my yawn.. So from what I know, that generally means you're not getting enough oxygen. I took my o2 and it was at 94% which, ideally should be between 95-99%. 90-92% is hospital time.

Oh, heck, I shoulda tagged #PCCM #MedSky #EpiSky #Sociology on this, because these studies of Racial Bias in PulseOx Technology sit at the intersection of all

While the debate over wearables rages on, Dr's should prescribe home health kits including Blood sugar kits, scales, pulseOx, & BP cuffs. Wearables aren't fully reliabile yet but there's benefit to be gained from prescribed home monitoring for at risk patients.

Wearable tech can monitor our health but why are doctors so sceptical?
Wearable tech claims to help monitor our health, but many doctors remain sceptical.

Pretty sure the drunk lady that was breathing pinot grigio in my face at the Lewis Black show gave me covid.

Positive test, slept all day, PulseOx 93.

Thanks Boomer Wino Bitch.

The WaPo headline and subhead are to the point:

FDA recommends fixing racial disparities in pulse oximeter readings:

Inaccurate readings in the medical devices led to inferior care for Black patients.

I have insane insomnia, witch part of why the dr has me doing this. Apparently, insomnia is a symptom of apnea in AFAB folk 🤷
I’m also a dedicated side sleeper, but looking at the kit I think it’ll be okay. It’s basically a big watch, a bulky pulseox, & a disk to stick to the top of my sternum.

i got a hella system now for pulling my tray and accessing everything i need, getting trash in the can, water in me. if i could just get up without the pulseox or chest leads screaming id be up and down every which way

I've been doing a bunch of sleep tracking stuff lately, including getting all-night pulseOx telemetry, and I feel like I've gamified my sleep. I've started calling it "the sleepstakes" and I actually get excited about going to sleep now.

I didn't want to tell him not only do these exist, but I'm douchey enough to own some.

(NGL, a little hit of O2 throughout the day helps with my some of my long covid brain fog, my baseline PulseOx% is pretty terrible)

Love it! When I was in the hospital the other day the pulseox reminded me of a xenomorph 🤣

If the pulseox is above 90 I’ll eat my wedding ring

oh g-d work done for day feel very sick to my stomach and my heart rate is up again i can tell. i wish i hadn't left the heartrate/pulseox thing in the other room. :/

First one, the pulseox thing pinched my pinky so hard that it was numb for the entire day.

Last nights was a head band that was at max size and still gripped my head so tight I’ve got the _worst_ headache. Felt like rubber bands on a watermelon

I had to use the toilet.
Staff showed me where it was.
I used it and walking down the hallway, I couldn't breathe.
With oxygen.
I popped my pulseox on.
82%
A medical assistant walked near me.
I called out to her.
Can you read my pulseox?
She said, 82?!?
I asked if she could inform the doctor?
June 14, 2025 at 10:28 PM
Has someone checked this man's pulseox? He looks like he's at 72%. the man is PURPLE??

Pulse ox measures oxygenation of the blood. It usually goes on the finger, but can also go on your toes, forehead or nose! #doctor #footdoctor #pulseox #medical

Just had a scare from this past weekend.

Negative on COVID. No fever, pulseOx stayed good. Was worried due to feeling like i got hit by a truck.

Was just the crud from interacting with folks.
June 25, 2025 at 5:02 AM
I kind wonder if he has had it for years now. We know he lies abt his health situation. From books after the 1st time we found that he almost died from covid. PulseOx dropped to 83.
August 23, 2025 at 8:56 PM
Oh, how convenient that his temperature, blood pressure, and pulseox are /exactly/ what a textbook would say is ideal.
Body temp of 98.6? <cough>BULLSHIT</cough>

For the combo of darker skin + nail polish + moving around in sleep, I wouldn’t chance it.

For daytime readings you can absolutely get around it, or if you had a sticky pulseox it doesn’t matter.

“More is needed to help develop and bring to market newer [ #PulseOx ] devices that don’t have the same problems,” said Shachar. “Once we have alternatives, more thinking needs to be done about whether we can remove the older devices”

The devices remain unreliable in darker skinned people. Researchers say more guidance, enforcement and even legal action may be needed to spur improvement.
