Quick question to my psychologist friends: is APA PsycNet designed to be antagonistic?

Why does my "session" on a paper's page need to time out at all? And why when it does so does the site erase all trace of whatever paper I was viewing, never to be found again?

Bad news: @Google Scholar also seems unprepared for shared IPs.🥺

It is behaving more or less the same way as PsycNET and its policies seem unfriendly to privacy-conscious networks that share IPs among users: "If you share a Wi-Fi network with...

A recent article in APA PsycNet discusses the role of psychologists in Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) teams for early psychosis care, and presents a suggested model for implementation. The article was co-authored by Dr. Sarah Kopelovich of the SPIRIT Lab: psycnet.apa.org/record/2024-...

some personal news: today, for the first time in my life, I clicked an APA PsycNet link and it gave me an actual pdf of the article I was asking for

Has anyone ever managed to successfully download a paper from an APA journal through psycnet?

And both James and @dsquintana follow it up with a collective laugh at how psycnet is the dumbest site in the internet. On @hertzpodcast

Another sad @APA PsycNet story:
- When I try to access a journal's articles page from my University's network, I'm blocked because "I have no access" (my library has access to this journal)
- When I access it from home, no problem. But then I can't download articles 🤡

look I'll be impressed when ChatGPT can download a pdf from APA PsycNet

Well, that's not entirely true. It goes to a webpage that does return a display, but there's nothing there. Just the psycnet explaining it can't find anything at that location. It's a *bad* link. Just because there's urls in the "source window" doesn't mean they are real/good.

Wow, I just learned that, when having an open tab of APA PsycNet, Safari will *focus the tab* when one of their nonsensical warnings about IP change pops up.

Thanks to all the authors in the special section. Check out their interesting research in the most recent issue of #JARMAC. (I'd post links but APA PsycNet is useless 🙄)

APA friends,

Is @APA's PsycNET chronically inaccessible to you?

(It almost always blocks me for "trying to access APA PsycNET using a different IP". No other journal article sites have issues with my IP or require me to log in to access their journal article pages. Just APA's.)

Whatever the case, the accessibility of @APA's PsycNET is worst-in-class for me.

If the problem is me, my devices, or my campus, then the poll will show almost entirely "never".

But if the poll shows another pattern, APA's PsycNET may have a substantial accessibility problem.

Yes this is classic PsycNet bullshit. Neither the html page nor the PDF will work properly with Zotero, but if you search the title through PsycNet you get to a secret third page for the article that works just fine. Good times. psycnet.apa.org/search/basic

I've never figured out how to access APA PsycNET articles (like JEP) without sci-hub. More than anything, sci-hub shows just how crappy journal websites are.
