From behind, it feels as though she walks among the clouds.
The wide brim stirs the heart,
each light step carrying her forward,
toward the quiet rhythm of dreams.

A prose poem titled Aries and Helle. It's written in dark grey Times New Roman on a warm ashy background. The entire poem is one stanza, except for the last line, which is spaced far beneath the rest, taking inspiration from concrete poetry. It reads as follows: "This patch of grass becomes a sinkhole as the shape of the monster clambers remorselessly up the tower, an intrepid obsidian eel with the peal scrap of my sister dangling from its mouth. Her soul hangs above her body like a glowing dove against the darkness. Its tail and her blood coil round the spire, twin ribbons which chase each other, wound round like gauze as it carries her into the sky. When it reaches the peak it bunches up there like a black vulture, then blistering eyes disrupt the spiny mound of its back, adding two more watchful moons to the night which do without thinking and dispel lives. At once the burning craters blink out and bring a sudden bursting. Fountains spray from either side of its face. Brilliance the shade of ire, her body is dispersed as crimson stars, chiming as she pelts the earth."

the bags already packed,
yet my feet refuse to move.

I sit by the roadside,
facing the quiet weight of doubt.
Is the destination far,
or only just beyond?

Still, I wonder—
should I turn back home instead?

poem: Stories You Write to Your North Pole Pen Pal ten days before Christmas, the lights bathe the suburban town drowned in white in color, reds & yellows & blues like a kid’s paint palette, titanium snow dusting a cardinal’s feathers; children toss snowballs & sled down slick hills in the night because the lit-up star garlands make the day eternal. when the cold slithers into their puffy coats, they’ll disappear through their garage doors & discard their damp boots entering a portal in which there is hearty laughter & a warm dinner awaiting their frigid bodies. but Mama still isn’t home, instead downing eggnog at her party, below the mistletoe while Mariah Carey fills the room behind her. from our old brown couch, though, I can only hear the crackle of fire burning behind grates, orange dappling the ornaments on the fake pine. the warmth cannot reach me & it is cold & the wood house creaks in the breeze. there is nothing for me here aside from microwave dinners & one gift wrapped neatly (too pretty to tear apart, so it lies untouched on the dinner table along with instant mashed potatoes) so I flee to the porch, step out onto bright sheets of snow, watch the pale tectonics crack beneath my weight. tonight, I will desecrate the serenity of our front lawn & make snow angels in the soft ruins & they will keep me company.
