Really positive news for Pollokshields. The Council is launching a design contest for the reinstatement of the historic Albert Cross tenements. This is just the first step but it signals a real commitment to getting this done.

Should be interesting! 👍🤞

Niall Murphy of Glasgow City Heritage Trust: “The loss of two B-listed tenements [in Pollokshields, Glasgow] blighted the neighbourhood. This is an opportunity for renewal. … thoughtful place-mending.”

I remember a school friend telling me she lived in a tenement, and being gobsmacked when I visited her. She lived in the tenements in Pollokshields, so a bit larger than the average Glasgow tenement!

En route to PictCon. I decided to take the later train from Pollokshields into Glasgow so I could enjoy my tea and chat to my wife. Then managed to miss the later train. So i am in an uber to Queen street for my 841 train to Perth. Excellently on-brand ADHD start to the day.

Residents in Pollokshields, Govanhill and Broomhouse seem divided on whether the new restrictions have done much to reduce the noise, smoke and disturbance of fireworks.

it's why I take Bo away from the city, there was a heavy police presence around Pollokshields, at least the roundabout at the end of my daughter's road wasn't used as a multiple launch pad for industrial fireworks as it had been last year.

Got to say the fireworks ban in Pollokshields seems to have worked to a large extent, a lot less disruption than its neighbourhoods.
currently parked here to take Mr Bo a quiet walk, along with 10000 other dogs and owners 😬

Fuck fireworks says Mr Bo, the van ain't working in the Shields.

There are in Scotland, I know of one near me in Pollokshields and a bunch in Edinburgh. People can be arrested for fireworking. Dunno how effective they are yet.

The firework control zone in Pollokshields made a noticeable difference at the weekend but tonight I think there's no effort to enforce back garden fireworks and it's ridiculous - presumably the police are hanging around the usual street trouble spots?

The Firework Control Zone in Pollokshields is definitely working thus far. Been night and day from usual Bonfire Night. Her hearing reducing has been a blessing of sorts.

As new restrictions on fireworks come into force across Govanhill and Pollokshields, many welcome the move to reduce chaos on Bonfire Night – while some fear it could lead to over-policing of children in already marginalised communities.

A fantastic set of three Thomsoneseque attic windows on Shields Road on the Southside of Glasgow. I love the shape of the space created between them, which somehow seems just as solid as the surrounding stone.

Glasgow firework ban zones come into force for first time
PA Media A Firework Control Zone sign located in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow Restrictions banning fireworks in some parts of Glasgow have come into force for the first time after being delayed last year due to a missed deadline. A firework control zone (FCZ) was meant to be in place in the Pollokshields area last November but it did not go ahead as Glasgow City Council failed to issue the legal notice needed to create it in enough time. This year FCZs are in place in three areas of the city - Pollokshields, Govanhill and Broomhouse - in a bid to curb disorder over the Bonfire Night period.
