On her birthday, we celebrate Nobel laureate Wisława Szymborska, a master of the most profound poetic alchemy. She famously explained her process, a truth that unlocks her entire universe: "Any good poem becomes abstract in some way. But it always has to do with reality, with the poet's life or the lives of others." This was her genius: to look at one small, real thing with such astonishing precision, irony, and wonder that it became a mirror for all of existence. Just finished this novel by Olga Tokarczuk, I've had this @twistedspoon edition for a while but have never got round to reading it.

I will definitely look out for her other novels as I really enjoyed this.
