#Plastics
They are in everything, I’ve been thinking about composting facilities that supply garden soil. The compost can have anything in it and it’s heated to high temps. People chuck plastics and all kinds of stuff in there.

• Power sector emissions were flat, even as demand growth accelerated
• Solar grew by 46% and wind by 11% year-on-year
• Oil emissions in the transport sector fell by 5% in the third quarter, but grew elsewhere due to the production of plastics and chemicals

Analysis: China’s CO2 emissions have now been flat or falling for 18 months - Carbon Brief
China’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions were unchanged from a year earlier in the third quarter of 2025, extending a flat or falling trend that started in March 2024.

Couple years ago we stayed on Curaçao for 8 months.

A green garbage bin sits front of our house. Great! We'll put food and garden waste in there. Where does everything else go we asked.

🤷‍♂️ - "Oh, in the same bin."

Turns out that's _EVERYTHING ELSE_, beer bottles, batteries, chemicals, plastics 🫠

Finally a country taking #ClimateCrisis seriously & paying more than lip service. We can all play our part, whether it’s using buses or trains, turning your heating down a degree or not using plastics. Fossil fuels will stay in the ground if there is no market. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/n...

A big rise in the chemical industry’s coal and oil use offset reductions elsewhere. Production of plastics and other chemicals has been blooming, driven by domestic demand growth, import substitution - which gained extra impetus from the trade war - and exports.

Great news! A massive plastics ban will be implemented in NSW from next year. The 2.0 Plastics Ban will include bread tags and helium balloon releases to name a few. A terrific move towards combatting plastic pollution!

#China is cutting oil demand in transport. Has that ever happened in Western countries?

The red paint is expensive and uses polymer as a binder. As it gets worn down it releases micro plastics into the environment.

I’m not directly a hemp consumer, but I’d still much prefer ending up with hemp in my body than plastic 🤷🏻‍♀️

Research has identified more than 16,000 chemicals in plastics, including BPA and phthalates, which may disrupt hormones and influence #breastcancer risk. However, in today's world, plastic can be hard to avoid. 🔗Here’s what scientists and experts recommend to reduce exposure: https://bit.ly/4o1ks22

Engineered marine microbes (vibrio natriegens) are fed pure formic acid as their sole source of carbon. The microbes metabolise the acid to produce succinic acid, which is then used as a precursor to synthesise biodegradable plastics.
Ocean carbon in, biodegradable plastic out
Not-so-fun fact: our oceans hold 150 times more carbon dioxide than the Earth's atmosphere. Adding to that causes ocean acidification, which can disrupt marine food chains and reduce biodiversity.

It does an excellent job of renewing depleted soil as well. Hemp is really a miracle crop in a lot of ways. We could replace a lot of plastics with hemp if the oil industry didn’t have a total stranglehold on our government.

All forms. I wasn't sure if I could post the word. Hemp is an amazing crop and could be used to supplant lots of plastics.

I had not heard about this until tonight, but I cannot believe that in 2025 someone is advocating for, and the Parks dept is agreeing to, cover a whole park in plastic turf! In San Francisco of all places!
Artificial turf was found to be up to 15% of plastics found in some aquatic environments!
San Francisco doesn’t need 20 acres of plastic turf at Crocker Amazon Park
OPINION: “We all want the fields at Crocker Amazon Park to be upgraded, and we are excited that there is an identified investment. But proponents of artificial turf are misleading.”
