On this particular day I was forced to attend an all-day team meeting of a team that I had already left for an internal move because the workload was stupid and my boss was abusive. I don't remember why the mustache was attending also.
A person in a moderately femme moderately appropriate dark coloured office outfit except that they are wearing a false mustache and a little pillbox hat with a big veil and standing on one foot posed as an aeroplane.

Seen on a walk on the Northumberland Coastal Path, between Alnmouth & Boulmer. A caravan converted into a house, a pillbox at the top of some sand dunes & a signal beacon.

Seen on walk to Boulmer. Pillbox or Alnmouth Battery, just north of Alnmouth by the Northumberland Coastal Path. Built 1881, by Algernon 6th Duke of Northumberland. Made into a pillbox 1940.

One of my characters, the Lieutenant, has just returned to our world after an unknown amount of time in the Faelands, only to be met with a whole bunch of creatures that 1) shouldn't be here, and 2) *really* want to eat her.

The air distorted out of the corner of her eye, and she turned her head slowly, keeping the glass in place. Closing the one uncovered eye, she finally Saw what she was looking for. It was larger than she wanted to go up against; a giant, two-headed bird, with what looked like women’s faces, was sat on the roof of the pillbox. The heads were perched atop long, graceful swan-like necks, and the body was covered in deep purple plumage all over, except for those pale, smooth faces. One head was looking at her with interest, while the other seemed to be finishing up swallowing the lizard creature whole. The sight made her think of watching owls feed, a gulping obscene motion. She hoped it was too much animal to know she could see it. The crossbow was heavy, and she knew she’d need to drop the glass to be able to bring the weapon to bear and fire. In the pause as she weighed up her options, the second head of the creature stopped its swallowing motion and turned to look at her, half-consumed lizard still struggling weakly in its mouth. It swallowed abruptly, the last of the lizard vanishing down its gullet, and another snippet of knowledge came to her from who-knows-where: they knew she could see them – and they didn’t care. It’s wings unfurled halfway, heads coming down, feet shifting slightly, finding the right purchase to push away towards her. It had a predatory look to it, now more like a great vulture than an owl, and she wasn’t sure how it would eat her, but knew she didn’t want to find out.

Diane Arbus likely encountered the subjects here in the same Horn & Hardart restaurant in New York frequented by the American Surrealist, Joseph Cornell, who had a sweet tooth and appreciated their fruit pies and inexpensive chicory coffee. Arbus had photographed inside the Automat (a coin-operated cafeteria) for some 8 years before she met these 2 women wearing impressive pillbox hats - not identical twins or likely even sisters but perfectly matched, harmonious members of a close-knit community.
