geometric ornaments person, of course. realistic plants person. the real question is all swoopy Rs in one place or do they get split out by individual? or do I nest those into further threads?

gonna make a whole personal phylogeny of cool stuff i find at work

You've probably heard the phrase
“ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny.”
Now we have incompetence recapitulates capitulation.

A paper was just published that looks at the genomes of all Gibbons, forming a full phylogeny and demographic history and finding the enigmatic Junzi imperialis to be the sister species of Nomascus hainanus (Junzi is a synonym of Nomascus)!!!! www.cell.com/cell/abstrac... #primates #science #gibbons
Genome sequences of extant and extinct gibbons reveal their phylogeny, demographic history, and conservation status
This study presents a comprehensive evolutionary history of gibbons by resolving their contentious phylogeny, reclassifying an extinct species with ancient DNA, and identifying a structural variant po...

Mark was the foremost vertebrate paleontologist of the century. He discovered hundreds of spectacular fossils in the field and published hundreds of papers including seminal work on feathered dinosaurs, dinosaur eggs, nests, and growth patterns, theropod phylogeny and so much more.

Thanks so much for sharing! To add, we don't necessarily think shape is poor data for phylogenetic inference. Instead, we think PCA is inherently a poor method for phylogenetic inference! My dissertation research focuses on Bayesian inference of phylogeny from shape data; hope to share more soon!
