Tomorrow morning I'm announcing a BUNCH of awesome additions to our @phillytechweek party on Sunday. RSVP now! <a href="http://anyvite.com/wymuphismv" class="hover:underline text-blue-600 dark:text-sky-400 no-card-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-link="bsky">http://anyvite.com/wymuphismv
Philly Tech Block Party 2012
3rd Street in Old City and Northern Liberties has evolved into one of the most exciting corridors of creative and technology companies in Philadelphia. We think it's important to celebrate that. The N3rd Street community extends beyond companies with North 3rd street addresses, and we want to welcome ALL of Philly Tech to join us in kicking off Philly Tech Week (http://phillytechweek.com/) 2012 with a new fashioned block party! What's New Fashioned About It? It turns out that closing 3rd Street is a lot harder than any of us thought it would be, so we got clever and worked with one of the neighborhood parking lots and bought the whole lot for the afternoon of Sunday, April 22nd. There's tons of room, and it's outdoors. We'll be announcing details and partners every day over the next week, so RSVP today to get daily updates leading up to the event. Want to help out? Email alex@indyhall.org (alex@indyhall.org) and let us know how you'd like to help! (Special thanks to Lauren Ancona (http://twitter.com/laurenancona) for the Wanting to be... artwork above). 4/17 - UPDATE #1 This block party just went all BBQ on our asses (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/628073/grill.png) . A huge thanks to new Indy Hall neighbors Tamman Technologies (http://www.tammantech.com/) (@tammantech) & competitive BBQ team TwoBigButts (http://www.twobigbutts.com/) (why would I make that up?) for providing their delicious BBQ Chicken Confit and Cherry Coke Pulled Pork options for block party guests. Welcome Special Guests Make: Philly After a period of quiet, Make: Philly (http://www.makephilly.com/) is back in action and will be joining in the fun! Besides having the Make community join us on N3rd Street, Wondergy (http://wondergy.com/) will be bringing Solar S'mores (http://wondergy.com/about/photos.html#5324231015093384033/1) and there's rumors of liquid nitrogen...wait what? Yeah, when Wondergy and Make: Philly show up you know this event's going to be fun. Big thanks to Ken Fink for bringing the Make: Philly crew into the fold. RSVP today on the right (it's free!) to attend on Sunday and to continue receiving updates throughout the week! 4/21 - UPDATE #2 First some good news, then some other news. The good news! MORE TO EAT We'll be making ice cream with LIQUID NITROGEN between 3-5pm. Science + ice cream = awesome. This is possible thanks to Wondergy (http://wondergy.com) for bringing the science, and a sponsorship from Old City software purveyors Amy Hoy (http://twitter.com/amyhoy) and Thomas Fuchs (http://twitter.com/thomasfuchs) of Cheerful, makers of Freckle time tracking (http://letsfreckle.com/) and Charm (http://charmhq.com/) . Not sure how you're going to make it through Philly Tech Week? 5 Hour Energy will be on site handing out free bottles to help keep you going. VitaminWater is also providing liquid refreshments! Not into BBQ meat? It's okay, no judgement, AND we've got the Pitruco Pizza Truck (http://www.pitrucopizza.com/) bringing their mobile wood-fired gourmet pizza . Huge thanks to our friends at appRenaissance (http://www.apprenaissance.com/) for sponsoring the pizza extravaganza. Now, the other news. I don't want to call it bad news, but the weather report doesn't look good (http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdetail/19147?dayNum=1) . Then again, it's April, and I don't trust a weatherman as far as I can throw him so we're pressing ahead RAIN OR SHINE. What does this mean for the party? PLAN TO GET WET. Ponchos, rubber boots, umbrellas - whatever it takes to stay dry BRING IT. Got a tent? BRING IT, we'll set it up in the rain. Want to dance in the rain? We'll have the tunes pumping out of the back of a hatchback Zipcar. Have other rain-activities you love? Let us know (email alex@indyhall.org). We're not letting a little rain slow us down. It’s very clear that young, amoral tech bros are playing a huge role in the Drumpf/Elon/Project 2025 coup against our democracy. THUS all tech folk with a conscience need to speak AND act NOW to defend our democracy. Of course, @phillytechweek is a good place to start.
