When I'm not PhDing and 404 Inking I'm doing production and ops for Charco and the 2026 bundle is ready for preordering, with an excellent list we've been working on all this year. It's a great investment in quality translation, literature, and small press publishing in general.
It's here. Our 2026 Bundle.

Nine incredible titles - including new novels from faves Claudia Piñeiro and Ana Paula Maia, sci-fi from Puerto Rico, short stories and Oscar-winning inspirations. Direct to your door, throughout the year, ahead of publication.

PhDing update: I have really turned a HUGE mindset corner, and I have a new drive to finish.

I have from now until the end of the year to finish writing. I have a plan, an amazing team of mentors, and just enough spite that it keeps things interesting. This is going to happen.

Magpies, The Pointer Sisters and Raye’s Where is my husband! Things you need to see and hear whilst juggling teaching, final year PhDing and working to support yourself in the PhD.

Manchester & train etc. I can only read magazines at the moment due to teaching and PhDing.

I am going to miss the Tuscan hills and PhDing there, not only cause I’m a cyclist, but also because of the amazing group of people at the EUI and all the opportunities I got to be a year at the LSE and half a year at @ecb.europa.eu

TO DO: write a Bluesky version of a slightly cringe LinkedIn post, change PhDing to PhDone in my bio, update my personal website and tell my local coffeeshop that I can’t get student discounts anymore… because Tuesday I completed the official part of my education and defended at @eui-eu.bsky.social

In my prioritise pleasure t-shirt from the Self Esteem concert, I prioritised seeing a friend for coffee, charity shop shopping and PhDing.

Nice. I keep telling myself I need to get back into reading for pleasure more, but PhDing and *gesture at all this* has torn my attention span to shreds. I swear I'm dumber than I graduated high school.

genuinely i think i've managed my years as a phd student rather well in terms of keeping realistic workloads and my overall satisfaction with phding with some ups and downs of course but the way i felt about myself and my writing one week ago i truly don't wish on anyone loolll

Are there Nordic countries except Sweden that use this framework?

(Apologies if I've been sleeping; I was PhDing and PostDocing for much of this time)

phding is a completely different set of skills from remembering to eat produce if thats any help. (living in a new country is more similar to remembering to eat produce, i found it difficult but doable with support)

Had a lovely few days away from PhDing on annual leave last week including two agility comps with my Russo. Bagged his first clear KC jumping run at grade 1 🥇made all his contacts in an agility run placing 2nd 🥈and placed 3rd in a Helter Skelter special 🥉

Ready to get stuck back into my projects! 🐶

today's PhDing: I can’t tell if I nailed this latest chapter on how academia skips over questions of being (ontology) in light of questions of knowledge (epistemology) — or if I just talked in circles for 12 pages

it's coming along! I am doing the work

2019. Knowing nothing of poetry. Air hostess. Tired most of the time.

2925. Poet. PhDing. Tired most of the time.

Sport medicine PhDing
From a gym advert

I presume this means the sign maker is doing his PhD in sports medicine, but I absolutely LOVE the combination of writing systems and language features here! A super fun, creative, and interesting part of the gym #LinguisticLandscape!!!

"I'll take a break from PhDing and listen to a podcast," I thought. So I put on the 'Jaws' episode of @horrorjoypod.bsky.social and what do they immediately start talking about? The uncanny in horror, aka exactly what I'm currently writing about 🤦🏻‍♀️

Aaaaand now I'm writing again 😁 #PhDLife

PhDing and conferencing in and around Bath this week, starting with a visit to the fab Wilton House.

Richard Fitzwilliam, whose collections are the subject of my PhD, was cousin to the Earls of Pembroke and this was (and still is) their family seat.
