THREE NIGHTS IN THE CHIRICAHUAS Tubs Spring tangled in this cleft / the sweat pouring down our ears / behind us all / is mountains smoky blue and red / ribbing the dung flats / far into New Mexico; / rain clouds spilling / over the near peaks / like herds of mad cartilaginous horses. / around us / our feet caught in ferns / and the icy brook / the chilly fire and green-trunked birches / choke the narrow canyon / and close above our heads / our dripping mossy hearts.
