As true a prediction then as it is today: rob people of their sense of security, and they will choose autocracy every time. The only fix is to tackle each of these problems one by one, head on. Obama didn't have the stomach for it. Biden neither. Now, the pendulum has swung back toward the fascists.
81 years ago, FDR proposed a second Bill of Rights to guarantee every American the right to employment, healthcare, education, housing, and a living income. His words are as relevant now as they were then. Watch.

I hear you. But though my story may be different, multiple loved ones trying to kill me and all that, but it will get better. Eventually, sometimes decades in my case, you will be able to walk downhill. This year fucking sucks. It might get worse but the pendulum will always swing.

Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco. I was 12 and desperately unhappy with the small horizons of the small town I lived in. It made me a curious person and helped me believe in a broader world where I could eventually live

In fairness, a lot of the wealthy philanthropists in the past did so in large part because of tax incentives. I don’t know how the pendulum will swing this time though because climate changes are going to continue to worsen things apart from the wealth disparity.
