8 months after LXRP declared “Parkdale’s transformation is complete! All works are now complete, marking the end of the Parkdale project”… they’re finally finishing the unfinished bit.

Well, it’s been filled with topsoil. Whether it gets planted is yet to be seen.

Maintenance staff attended #ParkdaleStation yesterday to implement a fix for the stairs that don’t drain. The fix? Drainage holes drilled through the bottom of the riser.

Laughable. Those holes will be blocked by dirt and mouldy growth within months. #ParkdaleLXR

The plants didn’t stand a chance.
#DesireLines win every time.

And it did eventually get resurfaced and reopened. Credit to the project team for getting it fixed. But it’s mind boggling how much rework happened on this project, and how much that rework must have cost. #ParkdaleLXR

You know infrastructure is considered a success when it features in the photo gallery of a home for sale. #ParkdaleLXR

Replacement planting in a garden bed at Parkdale. Guaranteed these will be trampled and dead within a week, just like the last lot.

Because of poor design, these doomed plants are on the ‘desire line’ between the footpath and the pedestrian crossing.

Tree theft is a thing.
The Parkdale Level Crossing Project gave us 4 mature native species trees here. Now they’re been ripped and stolen by heartless fuckwits.

Yes, these are in Parkdale, indicated in red on the attached maps. In those maps, every ‘blue spanner’ icon represents a streetlight still not activated, many months after the Level Crossing Removal project was declared ‘completed’.

The cute Metro Trains logo pole-topper is back!

Still no power for the new streetlights around Parkdale.

Despite the Parkdale Level Crossing Removal project having been declared "complete!" in May 2025... All the new streetlights around Parkdale that were installed and not yet turned on (indicated by blue spanners in the map), are due to be energised "soon".

A few weeks later, and the wayfinding sign is back! And it’s higher - nobody’s going to hit their head on it now. But the cute Metro Trains logo has gone missing from the top of the pole.

What happens when a wayfinding sign gets installed at a newly built station, but it’s too short (cyclists could hit their head on it)? They make it taller? Nope. It gets removed, never to be seen again.

August 2025 and the sign frame with peeling paint has been repainted (or replaced).

The bike repair tools have been replaced, again. Let’s see how long they last this time.

All these little steel hoops have appeared at Parkdale - a sign of failed design. The paths don’t go where people want to go (desire lines). You can bet the next stage will be fences.

I hope #LXRP has a good supply of bike repair tools, because they’ve been stolen again.

“Parkdale’s transformation is complete!*

We’ve just finished our final landscaping works, planting approximately 100,000 trees, shrubs and grasses in and around the new station precinct.

All works are now complete, marking the end of the Parkdale project.”

*Except for this bit.

The 4-square (hand-ball/down-ball) court under the new Parkdale elevated rail, near the basketball court, had drainage issues. After rain, water pooled and remained for days.
It’s now being reconstructed.

After a request to LXRP, all the stolen tools have been replaced at the bike maintenance/repair stand under the new Parkdale Station.

Parkdale bus route changes were delayed while new bus stop pavements, signs and shelters were installed. Hopefully today is the day.

Sadly, the bike maintenance/repair stand under the new Parkdale Station has been vandalised already. The tools have been stolen.

An unexpected benefit of the new Parkdale Station with its dual entrances: pamphlet pushing election campaigners have assembled at only one of the entrances, and it’s not the one I use.
