Overall though from a tech standpoint, this was a heck of a lot smoother than PAT5 - we weren't diving back into the code every few hours to make changes! I'm really grateful to all our tech volunteers and hope they look forward to coming back for PAT7!

If anyone has any thoughts on that, or knows of any issues with Twitch over the weekend that could've caused it, I'd love to get to the bottom of it. We had no such issue in PAT5 and whilst STUK has had a lot of changes since then, none should've affected this.

Today's STUK update is one to reduce bandwidth and resource use. The Preview/Program viewer required three sources to be streamed to three separate VDO.ninja streams, which was a bit lengthy to set up.

Cue the NodeCG View in OBS, which puts those three scenes into one, meaning you just stream one.
For PAT5, we needed the Sync scene to be viewable at all times, so three separate streamed views were needed. Two of these are shared to VDO.Ninja streams by being turned into full screen projectors, whilst the last one uses the OBS Virtual Cam. These all eat into resources, especially bandwidth as when you include the actual stream to Twitch from OBS, you're outputting four video streams. The NodeCG View in OBS. This scene in OBS takes all three of the views you need and puts it into one scene instead. The Sync view is static, so is just a Nested Scene. The Program view uses Source Clone, which includes an option to display the current Program scene, so this is super simple. The Preview Scene on the other hand isn't so simple. Source Clone can't show the current preview - it's not something a normal stream would ever likely want to do. The Stream OBS already uses Advanced Scene Switcher, so I simply had to set up a macro for each scene that says "when the preview scene is X, the preview scene source clone is X". The NodeCG View scene is sent out via the OBS Virtual Camera. With some custom URL parameters, you can adjust the size of the VDO.Ninja stream, and have it automatically grab the OBS Virtual Camera stream. This then displays on NodeCG, using just one additional stream. The best part, because it's now all set up this way, for the streamer, they literally need to click two buttons: - Start Virtual Camera on OBS - View Virtual Camera on NodeCG

PAT5 was amazing and I for sure will be back for PAT6!! If you're looking for a charity marathon for speedrunning to dip your toes into, this is definitely one I can suggest! Everyone is so welcoming and you get a ton of overlap from other events. It's just such a nice community 🥰

Getting the graphics updated to match PAT's style was a doddle. The package uses a variables stylesheet - you declare colours, fonts, borders and other style choice there, and it updates everything. Needed some other minor tweaks, but it was 90% complete just from the variables sheet. Deets in Alt.
@ateatree.bsky.social‬'s run of Amplitude for PAT4. Whilst the STUK layout is very different, it was vital that the style was still retained. STUK's default 16x9_1P layout. With the variables files, it isn't difficult to completely change the style of this scene. @crazy-y0.bsky.social‬'s run of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe using PAT5's 16x9_1P layout (plus the omnibar which is a separate source). The start of the variables file, showing how the background colours and then specific scene element colours are edited. This is the default file and is currently 167 lines, but I'm planning on adding more.

So PAT5. This marks the first time the package has been exported and is not running on my PC, which was the case for Speed4 TLC. For PAT5, the restream PC is hosted by @cubsrule21.bsky.social, with restreamers and tech accessing via Parsec. I'm pleased to say the export worked great.
