Thanks! In Omeganaut, everything moved toward the player. After adding physics, I had to invert that logic to not update the bodies of all non-moving objects. So I think I’ll move the boat & ocean chunks, and teleport them per quadrant if needed.
Or maybe the whole ocean could fit inside a bottle 🍾✨

Building a sail from a simple quad mesh and deforming it with wind was easier than expected, and I learned a lot. I'm pausing work on this toy to finish releasing the Omeganaut demo. I’ll turn it into a game later ⛵️

Since I have no idea how to handle the sail mesh, I added a sun cycle, only to realize I never actually knew how to use light source coordinates in ES2/GL3 shaders. Missed it for years because the light source never moves in Omeganaut...

With the help of the great guys from ZGameEditor, I now understand how to set up and use PyBullet heightfield terrains. This is going to be cool for that new game, but also reusable for activating collisions with the mountains in Omeganaut ✨

Throwback to that time* at PAX Aus when the final Omeganaut was chosen via a KPop Demon Hunters sing-off. Those folks who competed were incredible.

I recently had a dream where I flawlessly sang Golden by HUNTR/X in front of crowd of like 50 people. If only I could do that irl.

What would be a good call to action to sell the unfinished game at the end of the Omeganaut demo?
I’m thinking of destroying the world and the player... Kind of like the ending of the 1993 DOOM shareware, but a bit better.

It’s time for a new moulinette for Omeganaut!
I’m building a system to export a playable demo from the full game without having to manually trim anything or, worse, hide the full game inside the demo. It will automatically trim the full code before compiling 😎✨

Oh noes… I’ve got this weird bug in Omeganaut where beams that are destroyed when they go off-camera can sometimes reappear and replace the player’s lasers if they’re fired at the exact same time...
It makes no sense 😭

I hooked up the ring’s rotation, size, and on/off toggle to the debug randomizer in Omeganaut. Now, on to that low-poly ring!

Let’s go destroy an enemy base on a purple moon. Levels in Omeganaut are short but intense. You’ll get a breather only before choosing your destiny, or in death.

This morning, I added a quick transition between the menu and gameplay in Omeganaut. It’s rough, but already gives that nice thrill of piloting a powerful, slightly wonky spaceship 🚀

Still can’t believe I am a @paxaus.bsky.social Omeganaut this year. Have attended every single PAX Aus - this feels like such a karmic reward. I do suck at the first game though so my labours will be heavy but my glory short.

I’ve been making games for Android for years, like Omeganaut, but I withdrew from Google Play when they started making things complicated (like forcing developers to continuously update their apps or risk having them considered dead and delisted). Moves like that are really bad for developers…
