Technically no! I think it’s written so it can be read separately but I read the Caraval series first cause it takes place before OUABH and provides context revolving him and Tella and OUABH is his healing story as a character

I guess that explains why Evangeline doesn't really show up in Caraval T_T huh interesting wonder if my experience will be different having read OUABH first xD

same. caraval was a delightful time for me and the hype around ouabh definitely raised my expectations to an unfair level but the series didnt even feel mediocre by comparison. it was just bad 🫠

I prefer Caraval but OUABH had been extremely overhyped for me prior to going in so I had super high expectations
