Republicans already killed it. The premiums were going up regardless of what Democrats did thanks to the OBBBA, which passed WITHOUT A SINGLE DEM VOTE.
Don't try to frame them as being responsible for Americans losing their healthcare. The shutdown wasn't stopping premiums from skyrocketing.

And the times they have had a chance to defend trans people, they've taken it. They voted down the trans sports ban in March. They blocked the gender-affirming care ban on Medicaid in OBBBA. But the fact is, they don't have many tools otherwise. So I apologize for being snippy with you.

The "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" (OBBBA), enacted in 2025, will require states to impose a work requirement for the Medicaid expansion population starting in 2027, and will also require states to redetermine Medicaid expansion enrollees' eligibility every 6 months, instead

These changes dramatically restrict federal borrowing for advanced degrees, aligning with a policy goal of increasing accountability for tuition costs and reducing taxpayer exposure.

After OBBBA, which passed via Reconciliation so Dems couldn't stop it, what "win" was there to get for Dems? Preventing starvation and ending illegal RIFs are both good. And this CR - if it even crosses the hurdles left- expires at the end of January, queueing up another ACA battle. Right?

Essentially, this is a case of over promising and under-delivering. In fact, the defining trait of Trump’s second presidency has been avoiding having him in a room with Schumer and Jeffries to cut a deal. This is why Johnson put the debt limit in OBBBA, which pissed off Rand Paul.

There was never some big win in play after OBBBA, which Rs passed through Reconciliation to give tax breaks to their friends. Rs were also willing to starve people. I don't like this because it sucks, but a majority of Americans made a choice in Nov 2024 that put us here.

Medicaid is now subject to new federal work requirements due to legislation passed in 2025. Under the OBBBA signed into law in 2025, Medicaid enrollees, 19-64, who qualify under Medicaid expansion must work at least 80 hours of work or approved activities per month to remain eligible.

SNAP cuts, Medicare cuts and insurance premium increases all go into effect in January. The gvt shutdown is a preview of the “One Big Beautiful Bill” the republicans voted for in July and what will happen PERMANENTLY for millions of Americans. This was a preview of permanent cuts in the #OBBBA #GOP

I'm sorry, no, I didn't take healthcare away from anyone. That's what the Republicans did, when they passed the OBBBA. They were able to pass that law because the American people gave them an electoral majority by voting for them in 2024. You cannot stop the OBBBA by bankrupting federal employees.

do you think most federal employees work for ICE?
btw, everyone in ICE is getting paid because they got effectively a blank check from the OBBBA.
it's the people who administer SNAP benefits and Social Security and weather forecasting who aren't getting paid.

I am angry at the Democrats, but this is what the American people voted for. A President and a political party that would restrict benefits. This is what they chose. An estimated 16 million people are projected to be uninsured by 2034 due to the OBBBA. #shutdown #democrats The people will suffer.

And Republicans would let all that continue because they don't give a shit. Tired of the circular firing squad. How about a strategy of just putting the blame where it belongs and reminding voters this is what's coming with SNAP and health care when the OBBBA fully kicks in?

Don't think we're going to get a good deal. GOP doesn't care if people go hungry, can't pay for health care. Maybe time to move on and focus on putting the blame where it belongs. And what I'd like to hear more of is how this is a preview of when the OBBBA fully kicks in.
