We have a view with 38 levels of nesting.
Why? Produce denormalised data for a partner.
Why is it done like that? Fuck only knows.
Is it maintainable? Is it, fuck.
Does it have perf issues? Fuck, yes.
Is it impossible to tune? Also, fuck, yes.
Genius who created it is long gone? Fuck's sake 🤦🏻♂️

Blinded by my disciplinary bubble, I guess, but it's truly gobsmacking to a historian that anyone thinks individuals in an institution like the judiciary operates independently of wider societal prejudices.
Legal historians' whole schtick is about nesting judgments within their historical context!

I have already had several lawyers (former and present) reach out to thank me for my bravery in writing this piece. It's astonishing that stating such an obvious truth (that the judiciary cannot avoid the prejudices of the society it operates within) requires courage at all.
"As someone working in law, it’s heresy to say this, and it might even kill my chances of a career... But as a trans person, and someone fighting for the rights of my community, I refuse to remain silent. To me it just seems obvious: a heavily prejudiced society produces prejudiced institutions."

@scumbelievable.bsky.social 's Manhunt got me into horror and connecting with queer community. I think of it when I facilitate a local support group
@kaaauthor.bsky.social 's Animorphs books saved my young trans life. I smile every time I hear the red tailed hawk nesting behind my house cry out

tell me about a book that changed you
for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

For a long time, the rate of increase in capacity and affordability of storage was such that I could readily afford to take an entire copy of my computer and drop it into a folder on my new computer. For a long while, I had several generations of nesting-doll computers archived that way.

A looong time ago I used to paint custom family portrait nesting dolls. I have a few blanks left, I’m considering painting them again, if there is interest. This set probably took me 50 hours altogether. 🫠 #acrylicpainting #art #artists #handmade #family #knitting #petportraits

The answer of course is to have Benoit Blanc investigate Bond's death and solve an elaborate set of nesting clues until it's revealed how he isn't dead at all.
I can't decide if it's better if they're two separate characters in this or the same guy

My nesting partner and I both work in a public library and, of course, our home is full of books. We still don't have enough!
