Traditionally, roads were inspected by hand to identify cracks and potholes. Now, #AI is helping us do this faster and more accurately while saving money.

Find resources, from #NCHRP publications to #TRBAM sessions, on how AI improves road conditions.

It would be nice to see this 2014 "Handbook for Designing Roadways for the Aging Population" updated with more bicycle-related content highways.dot.gov/sites/fhwa.d...

But that feels unlikely with the current admin

I also wonder if an @trb.org NCHRP effort would make sense first

Check out this table in the Supplemental Information (static-content.springer.com/esm/art%3A10...), it lists all kinds of nature-based solutions for climate resilience. You could print it out & bring it parties this weekend to refer to. "What do you do for fun?" [unrolls this table] "I like nature".

With #Halloween and the end of DST this weekend, expect more walkers out after dark. Between 2018 - 2022, 76% of U.S. pedestrian crash fatalities occurred in darkness.
Find #NCHRP strategies informed by a multimethod study of pedestrian safety in darkness.

Studies of roundabouts show the inflection point at about 17 mph. The data shows a sigmoidal curve nearly flat at the bottom and top with a steep, fairly linear response connecting the top and bottom. NCHRP Report.

The font on this slide is tiny, but seemed like a good overview of the stages of change for #VisionZero in this NCHRP

Reactive -> proactive -> institutionalized

There was a comment about the need to do fewer bad things (like high-speed multi-lane roads in urban areas) and that's definitely a need
