Should but rarely is. Some of those 'difficult' kids were hard going but others simply had learning difficulties that the other schools couldn't be bothered with. They were great kids. NAPLAN results for the other schools were even a consideration.

Are there any specifics on how this new money might be withheld without improvement in “dire NAPLAN results”?
January 24, 2025 at 5:11 AM
Curious if Naplan tests results are skewed based on teachers teaching to take the test rather than focusing on core learning. In the US, for example, there is a lot of focus on teachers training students to do well on the test so that schools can get their money.

Wonderful to see Fairfield West in the news for getting great results.
It was the first school I was appointed to as a beginner teacher (many decades ago). Loved the kids there - quite a mixture of backgrounds then too.

Literally every part of public life in Victoria is better than ten years ago. Cheapest electricity, best hospitals, stronger economy, better transport, better NAPLAN results, housing affordability improving, CBD with lowest retail vacancy in Aus, like what is wrong with you?

Had such a lovely chat with the principal of Lethbridge Park public school yesterday - as a reminder that while NAPLAN is important for policy makers and educators, there’s a lot more to what makes up a good school

Parents of children flagged as “needs additional support” on #NAPLAN don’t need platitudes and rationalisations. They need a clear, evidence-informed action plan with accountability wrapped around it.

Not sure it did. Ask a public school teacher about NAPLAN.

The 2025 NAPLAN results reveal deep systemic inequities. ASPA urges a shift beyond narrow metrics toward a child-centred approach to reform. What strategies will truly move us toward a fairer education system? Read here: www.aspa.asn.au/aspa-respond... #NAPLAN

Wyeth's style is so recognisable, showcasing such everyday subjects.
I reckon this painting, or one much like it, was used as a "starter" for a creative writing question in the Australian #NAPLAN test for Year 9 students a few years ago. Would have loved to have seen some of the written responses.

Im hoping that the NAPLAN thing is just a political shield. We should in the long term see improvements in aggregate anyway unless the general socioeconomic situation worsens.

I do not think parents understand how to research school choice.

NAPLAN is about grades, not behaviours.

At report time, I always look at the behaviours first (works cooperatively, respects others, effort etc), and the grades second.

I thought the original intention of NAPLAN was to redirect funding to where it was most needed according to results.
Did I imagine that?
July 30, 2025 at 12:39 AM
Pfft as if NAPLAN has ever been used to direct resources. It’s been used to hike money to private schools not where it’s needed. Teacher (retired) from a poor socio economic school here, it was used to create scholarships to send kids away rather mentor parents n kids in our area.

This stuff about "lesson plans" only helps abstractions. Teachers teach children not gobbits of information. If they are given plans to help NAPLAN results that is corrupting the results.

aapnews.aap.com.au/news/go-to-s... Aha! The only place AI can help is with NAPLAN testing. Scrap NAPLAN (random testing gives stat robust results, but testing everyone is a waste of resources). This is advice selling bulk testing, not teaching & learning. Save on AI
