finally had a little time to dig into this special issue on LLMs/MixedModels in a BF context:
link.springer.com/journal/4211...

The discussion on the marginality principle is quite interesting (seems like you can test main effects with interaction present after all - in ANOVA designs)

Mixed-effects modellers, assemble!

Just dropped a (very niche) blog on the weird quirks that occur with uncorrelated random effects and the trifecta of packages: lme4, afex, and performance (in R).

(2/2) Doug Bates started to write a new book lme4.r-forge.r-project.org/book/ but got distracted by juliastats.org/MixedModels.... There's also bruno.nicenboim.me/bayescogsci/ (all Bayesian/Stan though ...)

Without knowing more details, it sounds like this is caused by singularity. tl;dr I would keep the term, *but* you'll get exactly the same answers as if you explicitly discarded it. stats.stackexchange.com/search?q=%22... bbolker.github.io/mixedmodels-... gist.github.com/bbolker/d809...

Was catching up with friend and talking about model selection and covariance structures (as you do). We ended up turning to @bbolker.bsky.social's fantastically useful FAQ document for mixed models here: bbolker.github.io/mixedmodels-.... If you use #Rstats and mixed models, that FAQ is your friend!

There are some new friends following. I often share useful resources for quantitative analyses. One of the resources I have been sharing the most to students these days is this faq on glmm by @bbolker.bsky.social

If you want to see it in action, check out @nathanieldaw.bsky.social package for fitting cognitive models hierarchically using EM:

or the excellent mixed effects regression package:

Hey #ecology folk - when you learned #mixedModels, were you taght about the assumption of endogeneity/random effects assumption - that your random effects (i.e., site groups) should not correlate with your predictor of interest? I was not! @LauraEllenDee and I are curious!
