This led to an upgrade in the TNM staging for some patients, highlighting the value of microCT in guiding pathologists and enabling more precise tumor evaluation. The study also provided insights into underlying structural lung diseases, such as emphysema and fibrosis.

By performing paired ex vivo CT and microCT scans on surgically removed lung lobes, the researchers were able to identify additional primary carcinomas, separate tumor nodules, and atypical adenomatous hyperplasia that were not evident before surgery.

A new installation of #InsideTheFSBI! We hear from FSBI PhD Student, Rebecca Bentley, who is based at the University of Bristol. Inside the FSBI - FSBI PhD Student, Rebecca Bentley
Rebecca Bentley is an FSBI funded PhD student at the University of Bristol, working on the evolution of ecomorphology in armoured catfish (an adaptive radiation of over 1,070 species). In this video, she focuses on how jaw shape is linked to diet and other ecological factors, but constrained by phylogenetics. With some phenomenal micro-CT images of these charismatic little catfish, we get a glimpse into the anatomical features Rebecca is examining as part of her PhD.
