Meursault enjoyed his solitude, and other than casual sex and forced socialization at work dinners, he would return to his small apartment with haste to enjoy his loneliness. But now, all of this was being threatened. Meursault made the math, it was not feasible to keep postponing this. So Meursault convinced his coworker that got the same proposal as him, to get hitched.
