Saudi megaprojects do not have a strong track record of actually getting built. They have a lot in common with techbros who fantasize about making Rapture (the underwater video game city) real.

On a more important note, whats striking about this new desert city isn’t just the Nile diversion, its how Egypt keeps using megaprojects as a performance of control. Each “city of the future” becomes a distraction from inflation, debt, and youth unemployment. #newcities

What’s less clear, but highly plausible, is the narrative goes national and scares other states off taking on ratebased energy megaprojects.
Which means the federal backstop for new nuke plants would need to be quite a bit stronger...probably even more than was contemplated as of 24 hours ago.

starting to build megaprojects, my strategy was to make a pretty cheap and efficient starter fort, to raise a huge workforce fast. So, this was ugly, but it got me to 180 dwarves.

Which isn't to call the U.S. industry small, it's just concentrated. We have more capacity than anyone else but that's largely thanks to some megaprojects like The Geysers in California, which remains the world's biggest geothermal plant.
