If a system requires dehumanizing students & teachers, it isn’t working. Teaching must embrace complexity: science, culture, ecology, identity. That’s how we create classrooms of belonging.

On day one, I’d skip the “rules lecture” & start w/ a math task that gets students talking and thinking right away. A task that invites wonder, and multiple strategies—no textbooks. This sets the tone: math here is about thinking, sharing, & learning together.
