CNTs are *bullshit* btw, because they're such a cheat for solving matsci problems that its unreal. Need something to be stronger? Add some CNTs! More conductive? CNTs! Better chemical properties? CNTs! Stabilize battery materials? CNTs!

If they weren't so expensive and such a pain to use...

The period between the initial lost contact and the coast guard finding the wreckage broke into two camps:
1. Professional news orgs speculating wildly about what happened and their condition
2. People like me with a MatSci background going "holy fuck, a carbon fiber sub? They're all so dead"
The submersible implosion that killed five aboard a Titanic dive was “preventable,” the U.S. Coast Guard said Tuesday.

The investigation blames OceanGate for ignoring protocols, using “intimidation tactics” and exploiting regulatory loopholes.

The Titan submersible maker’s “intimidation tactics” and failure to follow established safety practices led to the disaster that killed five, a federal investigation finds.

I don't think we acknowledge how universal "Flatland" by Edwin Abbott Abbott is. I referenced it in my dissertation because it works well in describing phase space for HEAs. Keon West also used it to describe intersectionality with racism and other social issues #flatland #matsci #keonwest

Basically, even in the 21st century, most materials science is still just brute-force empirical testing (a fancy term for "trial and error") - the models just tell us what to try first, lol

And Elon thinks Grok is making new matsci discoveries by... contemplating really hard, I guess
July 11, 2025 at 5:44 PM
The fuck does H. Elon Perot know about materials science? Sure Space Karen can repeat something he saw on the interwebs 5 minutes ago. I guarantee-fucking-tee you he cannot apply anything from intro MatSci to reality:

Packing density of FCC vs BCC materials
Inclusions
Concept of LEDs
Nucleation
What do you think is more likely, that Musk’s Nazi robot has made new discoveries in materials science or that Musk can’t tell when he’s being told scientific-sounding gibberish?
July 11, 2025 at 4:18 AM
Yeah this is 100% how matsci works, to the point it's common to prepare a dozen or so variations on the material simultaneously and test in batches because you expect most new materials to fail no matter what the models say

Microsoft estimates around 15%
AMD around 25% (within 5 years)

Contrast to productivity boost due to electrification of US manufacturing: >400x or 40000% higher.

Alchemy is just an early version of material science. There are religious elements to alchemy because that was the understanding available at the time. Traditional views on sex are more akin to alchemy, with modern gender theory being akin to MatSci.

You're just completely backwards.
Transgenderism is alchemical transmutation (like lead into gold) and is a purely mystical metaphysical thing. I thought the zeitgeist moved past this with Trump 2.0 but I guess there's still some die hards out there. Retro!
