Is MTPE a happy medium? Certainly not for the translators, over 90% of whom are adverse to the practice (source: www.linkedin.com/posts/caroli...). Pretty sure the percentage is even higher in creative fields.

How much more human translation work is even in my future? Who knows! I'm trying to scrape up what I can, but almost all my LinkedIn requests are for MTPE jobs and even my longtime agencies keep offering them! It's fun! I love dealing with problems I've had since day one that are now supercharged!

Faz 8 anos que trabalho com tradução. Nesse tempo todo, os valores pagos se mantiveram estáticos praticamente, até o boom de IA dar a porta pra executivo forçar ainda mais a barra de MTPE, ao ponto de que quase não tem trabalho de estúdio médio-grande que não seja assim, pagando mixaria

AUMENTO DE PRODUTIVIDADE == fazer mais em menos tempo e portanto mais tempo pra viver
enquanto a real é que
AUMENTO DE PRODUTIVIDADE == produzir mais em menos tempo então vai trabalhar ainda mais tempo para produzir ainda mais (ganhando o mesmo, ou menos)
AUMENTO DE PRODUTIVIDADE == fazer mais em menos tempo e portanto mais tempo pra viver
enquanto a real é que

Faz 8 anos que trabalho com tradução. Nesse tempo todo, os valores pagos se mantiveram estáticos praticamente, até o boom de IA dar a porta pra executivo forçar ainda mais a barra de MTPE, ao ponto de que quase não tem trabalho de estúdio médio-grande que não seja assim, pagando mixaria

MTPE speeds me up only if I'm translating from a language I don't work with very often, and even then I don't like it because it biases you towards the computer's solution.

No, si ya han metido la cabeza (y la gente que aceptó hacer se está rebelando y está siendo precioso de ver). Ya les dije VARIAS VECES en su día si era para «obligarnos» a hacer MTPE para llegar a plazos. Por lo que sea nunca me contestaban a eso.

I find this paragraph very interesting. I have long said that these products are "good enough" at this kind of thing that I thought translators are in real danger (I prefer human translators in every case, tbc). But if they are "just about as good" as the products we already had...then what a waste!

いわゆる業界絡みでない集まりで同業者さんと話す機会が最近何回かあったんだけど、安い値段で短納期のMTPEをがしがしやってて、もう翻訳の仕事なんてなくなるよね...みたいな話をそれぞれから聞いて、MTPEも、なんならCATもほとんど使わずにこの一年を過ごした身としては（まあ例年の8割くらいしか働いてないけど🙃）、ふだん話してる人たちとはまた違う世界が確実にあるんだなと。
もちろん、避けて通れない部分はあるとは思うし、私も来年はどうなることやらと特にここ数年はつねに思ってるけど、でも翻訳そのものが必要とされるところはまだまだ残ると思うのよね。

I'm not going to defend capitalism here, but can we agree companies only use MT/MTPE when they believe it reduces costs or improves speed, while at least retaining "acceptable" quality? That's kind of how capitalism works, after all.
