#MNE-Python
thank you for listening to my EEG TED talk! (the vibes from these chairs 😅).

we ran a MNE-python tutorial for >100 people for a week. the program going from preprocessing to source estimation to group analysis was ambitious, but I hope seeing all the steps involved was helpful for participants. 🙂
this week at #PracticalMEEG2025 in Aix!

having run an MEG pipeline by trial and error, I was doubting myself between all parameters. lectures on the analysis steps + hands-on application together were very helpful!

& seeing women on stage sharing what they're excited about just hits different ⭐️

Last week I was being trained as a #MNE-Python TrainEErs at #PracticalMEEG2025 - it was a lot of fun to look behind the scenes and learn how to run a good workshop :) thanks to @cuttingeeg.bsky.social for hosting and Marijn van Vliet and @nschawor.bsky.social for organizing this amazing workshop!

Great question! Our Performance Metric report pipelines remove noisy data segments based on overall signal quality, and ERP pipelines use a +/-100uV threshold to remove movement artifacts. You can also export the noisy data and use EEGLab or MNE Python for clean-up.
November 25, 2024 at 10:46 PM
I’d say go with MNE if you are more familiar with Python than Matlab. From my understanding MNE can do pretty much everything EEGLab and associated plugins can, but you could always load MNE processed data into EEGLab if you needed something specific to EEGLab.

An important call from a lot of people I worked together with on MNE Python.

If you use free open source software for your research, please read this.

It's a lot of work building the tools that we as scientists use. In turn, we can help them by e.g. citing them correctly.

#BIDS and #EEG question:

How do you get/what resources do you suggest -- to someone (me) 1) recording EEG data from a Biosemi system/actiview, 2) mainly using MNE python for analyses, 3) often with the help of relatively unexperienced students -- to store data in the BIDS format?

Aah, got it! Both of these make sense. We're in the pre-pre-pre-initial stages of building an OPM lab (am I jinxing myself by saying it?) and my pipeline's in MNE-Python, so going to keep a very close eye on this

(I will be in Aix-en-Provence next week, at the on-site part of the event to help out with the more extensive mne-python course. it will be intense. 🙃)

MNE looks really promising, too, if you are being graced with the permission to install it. Python can be a pain to deal with though, particularly regarding version and package compatibility.

I've just released MNELAB 1.0.4 (a GUI for MNE-Python, a package for analyzing EEG/MEG data), which now includes standalone installers for macOS and Windows:

You can do EEG analysis with MNE-Python. An overview can be found here: mne.tools/dev/auto_tut...

It was developed with a slight preference for MEG so you may have to adjust your EEG a little to make everything smooth.
