The art déco exhibition, celebrating 100 years since the Exposition Internationale that launched the movement, was too busy (crowds of people in the very narrow spaces of the Musée des Arts Déciratifs (MAD…) to be truly enjoyable, but there are some gorgeous pieces on display… #ArtDéco #MADParis

I loved the backdrop used by #madparis for a series of photography. The grey removes distractions and the garment is the main attraction. These is something almost pensive about this #1780s gown, or am I just being an old romantic? #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

to showcase the types of outfits available when Poiret first started working in fashion. A great contrast to his more progressive looks. Although this is so sweet! I still call it the Winnie-the-Pooh Hundred Acre Woods dress. #Fashionhistory #madparis

Although she became the queen of the bias cut in the 1930s, Madeleine Vionnet was active for years beforehand. Her #1920s garments offer the same attention to fabric manipulation, this sheer red layered gown a showstopper for sure #madparis #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

The navy blue buttons and border that decorate the edges of this pink wool jersey dress almost appear to have been sketched onto the surface of the fabric in bold strokes, a #1930s fashion illustration brought to life #madparis #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

I haven’t shared Doucet’e early #1900s bee dress in a while and it is perfect bee weather so here it is. The white background highlights the unusual embroidery darting about the surface of the gown, each striped insect alighting on different parts of the dress #madparis #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Another garment that features in the Paul Poiret: Fashion is a Feast exhibition is this new to me early #1950s #Schiaparelli, included to demonstrate Poiret’s influence on future design. This has the sculptural quality of a ceramic, an ornament of style #madparis #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

I am having fashion exhibition FOMO, seeing the images of the new exhibition Paul Poiret: Fashion is a Feast on now in Paris. This c1910 evening dress just one of those that charts his avant garde design and early c20th change #madparis #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

I wonder if Yves Saint Laurent had in mind the voluminous c18th robe de volante in mind when he designed this puff ball hemmed gown in 1960? Whilst worn in different contexts there is something déshabillé about them both, in metres of cloth. YSL #madparis robe #palaisgalliera #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡
